From the Assistant Principals

Thank you to parents for supporting your child by reviewing the progress reports and assessment tasks found on the XUNO portal. A conversation with them to celebrate their progress and to reset for term 2 is important.

Students have made a very strong start to 2021 after the disruptions of last year. The tutoring program at the school has begun this term, which is designed to catch up students who may have fallen behind during 2020.

BOCI

Building Our Community and Identity Committee (BOCI), a sub-committee of council, have met twice this term. The committee is comprised of students, parents and staff. The committee’s purpose is to promote awareness and celebrate the myriad cultures represented at the college. Multicultural week has been a fantastic opportunity to fulfil this purpose. Many students have been involved in a range of activities for this week.

Uniform Sub-Committee

The uniform sub-committee is meeting on Wednesday morning at 8am. This committee comprises parents, students and staff and is responsible for reviewing the uniform policy and for making recommendations to school council. Please contact me at the college if you wish to join this committee.

Year 7 & 8 Interschool Sport

Our Year 7 and 8 students have been actively training and preparing for their interschool competitions in recent weeks.

This hard work paid off handsomely with four teams prevailing as Beachside Division Champions and a further seven teams placing as runners up.

In the Year 8 competition the Boys Cricket comfortably won each of their games to take the pennant and proceed to the Regional Final.  In some very close contests, the GEC teams that placed second were Girls Softball, Boys Tennis, Boys Volleyball, Girls Volleyball and Lawn Bowls

GEC’s winning ways continued a few days later when the Year 7 competition was held.  By the end of the day, three teams were declared the winners - Lawn Bowls, Girls Volleyball and Boys Baseball.  Other Year 7 teams also placed strongly with Girls Softball and Boys Volleyball losing narrowly to take second place.

Thank you to each of the teachers who have supported the sport program in Term 1.  Competition for all year levels resumes after the holidays.
