Year 11 and Year 12

All Year 11 and Year 12 students have been given the opportunity to attend the VCE and Careers Expo excursion on Friday, 30th April at the Caulfield Racecourse. Students should be taking the time now to start researching which exhibitors they would like to speak with, as well as which seminars they are going to attend on the day, just to try to get as much out of the day as possible. The VCE and Careers Expo is a great opportunity for all students to speak directly to Universities, TAFE providers, Private Institutes, as well as employers, to find out about different jobs and industries that they are interested in.

Year 10

All Year 10 students have recently been emailed information about the Work Experience Program for 2021. This year, students will have the opportunity to choose between attending camp or participating in work experience during the first week of Term 4: 4th - 8th October 2021. Due to COVID there are a couple of additional requirements for students attending work experience on-site that have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of our students.

Due to the many changes that COVID has had on a variety of industries and workplaces, it may be a bit more difficult for our students to secure work experience placements this year. I am reaching out to our school network and would love to hear from any parents or guardians that own/work for a company that is currently open to taking on Year 10 students who are passionate and excited about participating in work experience this year. Please feel free to call me at the school, or alternatively you can email me at hpa@gec.vic.gov.au

Year 9

Throughout March this year, Year 9 students have all been able to complete their Morrisby Interviews and receive their reports and results. Feedback I have received from both the Year 9 students and the Morrisby Interviewers has all been very positive and I hope every student got a lot of this experience. Morrisby is a career guidance tool that is used to help students understand their aptitudes, interests, and skills.

UCAT ANZ

Applications are now open for students to register for the University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australian and New Zealand (UCAT ANZ.) The UCAT is an admissions test used for university entry into select medical, dental, and clinical science degree courses.

The test helps universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications.

The UCAT ANZ is a computer-based test delivered in Pearson VUE test centre throughout Australia, New Zealand and at some overseas locations.

Please note that some pathways into medicine / dentistry / clinical sciences will not require the UCAT ANZ. For some applications, a different test may be required, these details will be available direct on the university websites.

A UCAT ANZ preparation plan video is available to watch here. Further details regarding dates and fees are available here.  A free UCAT practice exam is available for download here.

For UCAT sample questions, as well as additional advice on where to start and information on choosing a university, you can find further information here.

GEC Career and Pathways Website

Glen Eira College has its own Careers Website, which I encourage both parents and students to visit https://gleneiracollegecareers.com/ to gain further information about post school opportunities, work experience, VTAC, apprenticeships etc, as well as useful links for parents to help their students with career planning and career conversations.

Students are even able to create an account within the ‘Student Secure Area’ where they can create Career Action Plans, conduct Career Personality and Interest Tests, as well as get assistance in creating a resume and cover letter.

To view the Glen Eira College Careers page, you can either access it through the GEC website by selecting ‘Careers and Pathways’ under the ‘Teaching and Learning’ tab, or here.
