Year 7 Japanese
7E (Japanese immersion class) wrote Haiku poems about their camp experience in Japanese class. Haiku are very short poems, containing only three lines and they traditionally follow the 5-7-5 pattern, which indicates the number of syllables per line.

Breakfast Club Japanese
On 22 March, we enjoyed a healthy start to the week at the GEC Breakfast Club, with a Japanese breakfast. Students made their own onigiris (rice balls) and miso soup. Everyone had a go rolling their own onigiri, making sure to press the rice in tightly and in the shape of a triangle. We had many helpers on hand to help run the club smoothly; a special thanks to the school captains, Joseph and Aimee, for serving up the food as well as to Mychelle Whitewood (parent), and staff Ms. Lawson, Muramatsu Sensei, Melches Sensei and Nishikubo Sensei. Students said ‘itadakimasu’ before eating and even got to sing Happy Birthday in Japanese to a lucky student turning 17!
Emma Nishikubo
Japanese Teacher
We had a turn out of 30 people at the Japanese Breakfast on Monday 22nd March.
To kick start the celebrations for Cultural Diversity Week, students enjoyed delicious Miso Soup and Onigiri (riceballs).
Thanks to the Japanese teachers Ms Muramatsu, Ms Melches, Ms Nishikubo and parent helper Mychelle Whitewood.
It was a great start to the day!
