The Resilience Project

Part 2: Gratitude.

This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude.

Gratitude is being thankful and expressing appreciation for what one has – as opposed to focusing on the lack of something.

Research shows that practicing gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a Wellbeing Journal. In the image below are a few ideas to get started.

Mindfulness March

Learning to be more mindful and aware can do wonders for our well-being in all areas of life - like the way we eat, the things we notice or our relationships. It helps us get in tune with our feelings and stops us dwelling on the past or worrying about the future - so we get more out of the day-to-day.

It can also help us identify what we're grateful for, which has been proven to help boost your happiness levels!

Please refer to the Mindfulness March calendar for some practical ways you and your family can practice mindfulness this March.

Lunchtime Social skills games club

We started our lunchtime social skill’s games club again this week. This will be held during 2nd lunch on Tuesdays in the quiet area.

All children are welcome to come and play games in the quiet area. This gives the opportunity for some children to come and engage in conversation with other children and make some new friends in an informal way.

We practice skills like how to approach a group and join in a game with others, taking turns, playing fairly and appropriate things to say to others when playing games.

Healthy Lunches

DPV Health has developed a new Healthy lunch box resource featuring a variety of foods.

There are some great ideas for healthy school lunches that you might find helpful or if you are looking for some inspiration to pack in your child’s lunchbox. Remember to involve your children. Take them shopping and let them help choose fruits and vegetables for their lunchbox.

Let them help prepare and pack their own school lunchbox.
