Sport News

WOW what a week of sport we have had!

District Swimming

Last Monday 16 of our students competed at Aquarena in the District Swimming competition. All performed extremely well against tough opposition. Congratulations goes to 3 students who came in the top 3 in their race: Joe (Year 6) 2nd in 12 y.o  freestyle, Charlie (Year 5) 3rd in breaststroke and Sonia (Year 4) 3rd in freestyle. Students who finish first in their event go through to the Division finals.

Students have participated in two clinics this week in hockey and basketball.

Two coaches from Doncaster Hockey Club visited Warrandyte Primary on Wednesday and taught the students how to correctly hold a hockey stick, to dribble and play games of ‘Hocktopus’. All students thoroughly enjoyed their experience.

For any students wanting to further develop their hockey skills there is a free clinic being held on Wednesday 3rd March at Doncaster Hockey Club at 4.15pm. A flyer was sent home with all students, however if this has been misplaced there are more at the office. There is further opportunity to register to Hookin2hockey for the chance to play matches against other clubs.

Briony and Rhys from Warrandyte Redbacks came out to school on Tuesday and ran clinics for the whole school. Students obviously enjoyed what they’d learnt as the number of students playing basketball at recess and lunchtime increased 100%. Again for any students wanting to play more basketball details of how to register are below.

South-East Phoenix visit

What excitement there was at lunchtime on Thursday with a visit from 5 players from South-East Phoenix, an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne. They entered the National Basketball League in the 2019-20 season. Some of our students had the opportunity to play against them and every student was given a singlet top.

“It was really cool that we got to go up against an actual NBL team and it was really exciting” George. “

I enjoyed the experience watching some of my friends playing against NBL players” Josh"

“It was fun and it was nice of them to come” Marley".

Thank you to Leanne Whitmore for organising both the clinics and Phoenix to come out!

Interschool Sport

We had a very successful round of interschool sport winning 3 of our 4 matches, even though a few of our teams were short of players. Congratulations to bat tennis, girls softball and open rounders!

Next week’s game is an AWAY game against Andersons Creek and all games will be played at their school.
