Hi everyone,

We have had a busy week again here at Warrandyte Primary. Basketball clinics, hockey clinics, NBL players and then for the parents we had our Information Night sessions.  A busy school is a thriving school and its been great to be involved in many of these events and activities and get to know parents and students.

It was great to see so many parents at our online Information Night sessions.  We had lots of parents ask questions and make suggestions, which made the sessions more engaging and relevant for you.  We gave an overview of our new Instructional model that is currently in the beginning phases of implementation at WPS. Some parents thought a copy of this model for home would be good so we are all on the same page.  You will find the model and information around it's implementation on the 'In the Classroom' page in this newsletter's edition.  Recordings of the information sessions have also been sent through Compass for any parents who were not able to make it.

One of the benefits of the Remote learning in 2020 was that parents became more aware of the curriculum and the ways in which teachers teach and run lessons, which can only strengthen the partnership between families and schools. I always say there is no secret business in a school and if ever you have questions around the curriculum your teacher would  be only to happy to have a chat about it. I also enjoy a conversation around pedagogy and effective teacher practice and just generally anything you want to tell me about your child.  Each child is unique and special and that understanding is at the core of what we do as educators..

Unfortunately due to current Covid restrictions around gatherings in outdoor public spaces, we will have to postpone our Welcome BBQ next week.  We will move ahead with a BBQ or picnic as soon as we are able to.  Coming together as a community is an important part of the whole primary school experience for your children and so we look forward to this event in the future.

This week the Warrandyte Basketball Association kindly organised basketball clinics for all students at WPS and by all accounts, they were a big success.  The  South East Melbourne Phoenix NBL club to come out and play some short games in front of the whole school yesterday. We all had a great time cheering and joining in with the activities the players planned for us.

Players that attended were:

Mitch Creek, Ben Moore, Cameron Gliddon, Kyle Adnam and Yannick Wetzell.

Some of the photos taken can be viewed on the 'Sport News' page. Many thanks to Leanne Whitmore for organising both the clinics and Phoenix visit for us on behalf of WBA.

Thank you to those parents who have already completed the brief community survey about the canteen service at WPS.  If you haven't had a chance to fill this out the link is below. We've had a really good response from parents so far but the more people who contribute the more we know what the community's needs are.

Once again, a big thank you to our teachers, education support staff and our office staff  for their dedication throughout the week.  I hope you all have a great weekend.

Take care,
