From the Principal

David Tapp

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to another great week, the Term is flying by. Our students have settled back in following the short lock down and all students are engaged and working hard in class. This week we have seen our students really settle in for learning. I’ve visited each class and talked to many students who have shared their learning journey and next steps for them to improve. I’ve had a number of our students sharing the enjoyment of being back at school and learning together with their peers and teacher.

We are very excited that we can recommence many activities that simply could not go ahead in 2020 due to COVID, unfortunately due to ongoing restrictions we still cannot have parents attend. We are planning on having a new version of the family fun night in Term 4 when we hope to be able to have parents and the wider community join in. We are looking forward to still running events for our students, some of our upcoming events include:

  • School Photos! 📸
  • Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Raffle✨
  • Senior Swimming 🤽‍♂️
  • Interschool Sport 🤼‍♂️
  • School Cross Country 🏃‍♀️
  • Colour Run 🌈
  • Meal Deals  🍔
  • NAPLAN, and the list could go on and on!

After being called off last year due to COVID-19, NAPLAN will return this year. We have had a few parents ask about NAPLAN, as with 2019 it will be online, except for the Year 3 writing assessment. Years 3 and 5s will sit NAPLAN on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 11th of May  – Writing
  • Wednesday 12th of May – Reading
  • Thursday 13th of May – Numeracy and Conventions of Language

Raelene and I have been conducting school tours each Thursday, if you know of anyone who is looking to send their child to Somerville in 2022, please ask them to ring the office to book in a tour. It is wonderful to share our school with the community and future families of Somerville Primary School. If you have a child already at Somerville and have a sibling joining us in 2022, please contact the office for an Enrolment Pack.

I would like to remind parents that student cannot be dropped off before 8:30am, if you need to drop your child before this time, they must go to before school care. The yard is not supervised until 8:45am and we don’t want any of our students to be hurt.  As always, please come and say hello at the front gate, it’s been wonderful meeting so many parents this year.

Have a lovely long weekend,
