Teaching and Learning Report

Developmental Rubrics in the classroom

Students and teachers have made a great start to 2021 with lots of exciting things happening in the classroom. Our year 7 and 11 classes are being introduced to Developmental Rubrics and are being taught by teachers how to use them as a learning tool while our teachers are using them to better understand where students are in their learning and teach to each student’s point of need. We look forward to sharing our new way of teaching and learning with you as our teachers and students get better at using them and we encourage you to talk to your children at home about them. We are looking forward to making them visible to parents in term two in the new Dashboards that are currently being developed.

New Subjects

We have many new subjects running this year and many of those are in the year 9/10 curriculum. Many classes at these levels are combined to allow more choices and electives. In English, we have created 8 core elective subjects to replace the standard English course and early feedback from teachers and students has been positive. Our students are still learning the same key skills however, we are using different texts and content to teach these skills. Anecdotally, teachers and students are telling us the subjects are more engaging and we are hoping this will translate into improved learning growth for every student.

Assessment Schedule

To support our students learning, our teachers have completed an Assessment Schedule for semester 1. It communicates to our parents and students what the assessments are and in what week we hope to complete them in. This may change slightly and is just a guide to giving our community an overview of what the semester looks like across all subjects. We encourage you to look through the schedule so you can provide on-going support at home.
