Student Leadership News

Student Leadership at Wantirna College is off to a great start in 2021. We had a fantastic two days in December working together as leaders and planning what 2021 could look like for our student leaders. Many of our student leadership positions have been filled or are in the process of calling for applicants. Make sure you keep an eye on Compass for positions that are being advertised in the coming weeks.

Here are some introductions from our College Captains and our Middle Years Captains.

Hey, I'm Richard Ha, one of the College Captains for 2021. Some may know me from my other leadership roles I've held, such as SRC President 2020 and SRC Secretary 2021. I have a strong passion to change things for the better, so I look forward to working with the other Captains to represent the student voice and provide improvements to the school community. I'm also excited to be a leader in example; because it's not every day you have a Captain who isn't a sport or a performing arts person. I want to show that it is okay to not do any of those, and to focus on academics, while still being an effective leader. Other than that, I am excited to be working with the community and can't wait for what's to come!

Hi Everyone, my name is Mackenzie Le Fevre and this year I am very proud to be one of your College Captains! Before we get on with the year ahead, I’d just like to introduce myself. I’m the eldest of three with my two siblings also at Wantirna. When I’m not annoying them, I love to read, listen to music and watch TV shows. Some of my favourites are One Tree Hill, Friends and Chicago Fire. I also love sport, in particular AFL (Go Cats!) and Netball which I umpire and play. Representing the student voice is important to me and this year we as Captains hope to do that for all year levels. I am really excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see what 2021 brings us!

Hey Everyone! My name is Charly Hindhaugh, and this year I am one of the College Captains. Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. I love being a part of the productions at school, and outside of school, I am a dancer. I also enjoy AFL, watching movies and listening to music. I am so excited for what the year ahead may hold for all of us. Most of all, I am looking forward to being an active representative for the college community and being part of the voice that will help the student body deliver and carry out any suggestions for improvements. Bring on 2021!

Hi, I’m Jack Megee, One of this year's College Captains for 2021. I am fortunate enough to be the first VCAL student in this role and I look forward to all the opportunities it will bring. I'm excited to bring a new perspective to the table and make a change in areas that matter most to me. I can't wait to get involved in Production this year, I think it will be pretty Wicked. With the rest of the Leadership team, I am 100% certain we will have an amazing year!

Hi Wantirna College community!

My name is Elijana Henry and I am one of four Middle Years Captains this year leading Years 7, 8 and 9. A few things you might like to know about me:

  • I play Trumpet and Percussion at school and am in four music ensembles
  • I am heading into my 13th year of dance and am in this years production of Wicked
  • I love Harry Potter, Friends and Brooklyn 99

As Middle Years Captain this year, one of my goals would be to make the school a more inclusive environment where students can feel like they can just be themselves. I would also like students to have more of a voice this year about what they want in their school. I am very much looking forward to 2021!

Hi everyone my name is Phoenix Rigano and I am one of the Middle Years Captains this year! I’m in Year 8 and my favourite subjects are English (when we get to read) and Science. In my spare time, I like to tinker in the garage, working on my bike or building remote control cars. My aim is to help Year 7’s settle in to high school and to encourage all Middle Year’s to keep a daily eye on Compass & emails so that everyone is kept in the communication loop. I think it’s important for us to have a safe and fun learning environment, that’s one of the things I love best about our school. Did you know that as a Middle Years Captain I can represent you and your issues or ideas at the Student Representative Council and with the teachers? I’m looking forward to meeting you throughout the year and you’re welcome to contact me via Teams or email. So, make sure you let me know if you ever have any issues or cool ideas about our school! And don’t forget to CHECK YOUR EMAILS!!

Hi, my name is Jessica Huljak and this year I am going to be one of your middle years captains. I am currently in year 9 and for the previous 2 years I have been class captain. I have gained a great deal of confidence and experience and would like to keep building on the leadership skills I have learnt so far. Attending Wantirna College has given me the experience and maturity in becoming a person that is always extremely approachable. My vision as middle years captain this year is to represent Wantirna college in a most professional and organised manner, I thrive on always setting a good example and strive to encourage other students to maintain high professional standards and be proud of themselves. This year I want to gain further insight to what improvements the school students want to see within the school environment and try my best to encourage and initiate their ideas. I am prepared to put in the hard yards that this role requires and will endeavour to exceed all expectations for the year ahead to achieve a successful 2021.
