Music

Junior Band

Now that the short lockdown is behind us and most beginner woodwind, brass, bass and percussion students have had a few lessons, band is starting. Rehearsals will take place in the Music Centre on Tuesday lunchtimes. The first rehearsal is on Tuesday 9th March.  Students should bring their lunch and head over to the Music Centre at the very start of lunchtime. Parents can look forward to hearing their young musicians perform at the Autumn Concert early next term.

Choir

BSC Choir has started! Ms Keane rehearses the choir on Wednesdays, rotating between session 2 and 3. Anyone interested in singing can join so if you love to sing, why not come along. See Ms Keane for more information.

The Tuba

Tuba is a latin word meaning trumpet or horn. It was invented in 1835 and was introduced into orchestras to replace the ophicleide, a keyed bugle from the Renaissance. The tuba’s body consists of the mouthpiece, main tube, valve tube, valves and the bell. It is the largest and lowest sounding brass instrument. Tubas play in a range of ensembles from jazz bands, concert bands, marching bands and orchestras. There is also a large repertoire of solo pieces for tuba players.

Here at Bairnsdale SC we are lucky enough to have an experienced teacher and tubas to hire. We have enough instruments for students to have one at home and one at school to save transporting the instrument. Beginner students would join the Junior Band which rehearses on Tuesday lunchtimes. Interested students should see Mrs Green or Mr Dogger in the Music Centre. Mr Dogger is in on Mondays.

While the Swing Band is disappointed that the Merimbula jazz festival has been postponed this year their director, James Newman, is busy looking for other music festivals for this ensemble to perform at. So, watch this space for future performance details.
