WANGANUI PARK S.C. HALL OF FAME
WHO WILL BE NEXT?
The Wanganui Park Secondary College “Hall of Fame” was initiated in 2008 to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals who have previously been associated with the school.
Since that time, fourteen high achieving ex-students have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Each one has gone on to succeed in their chosen area of expertise, including the Arts, Academic Fields, Sport and Community Service. In 2015, the past students inducted were Deanne Thompson (Academic), Claire Sterling (Arts) and Shannon Byrnes (Sport). Previous inductees were:
2008: Sharon Orrman-Rossiter, Brett Lancaster, Adam Thompson, Gino Somers
2009: Nicole Buck (Pettigrew), Wilfred Poole, Wade Bennett
2011: Peter Gibbs, Matthew Gardiner
2013: Wendy Lovell, Meg Sterling
Students at the school walk past the photographs and stories of previous Hall of Fame inductees each time they enter the front school entrance. The students photographed were asked what the Hall of Fame meant to them. Brenton and Jansyn replied, “These images and words provide us with local people that we can look to for inspiration”. Aidan and Claire commented, “The photos provide motivation to strive to reach your goals and aspirations, never giving up on your dreams.” Tash thought that, “The images are a reminder that people from public country schools can do great things”. Hafza noted the variety of expertise on display, stating, “There are great sporting achievements, success as doctors, musicians and those that have given back to the community. This inspires me to achieve my best”.
The school inducts ex-students on a biennial basis, and 2017 marks the time to once again call for nominations.

DO YOU HAVE A CURRENT HEALTH CARE CARD
TIME IS RUNNING OUT
If you have a current Health Care Card you may be eligible to get funding for your student/s towards their excursion fees and camps throughout 2017.
All eligible participants receive $225 per student.
This is a government incentive so no student has to miss going on an excursion or camp that the school offers.
Please come to the office with your card and complete an application before the end of June 2017.

WORLD CHALLENGE TRIP TO VIETNAM
World Challenge and the school are attempting to attract enough students to send a group to Vietnam in December, 2108. There is still time to apply so contact Mr Tanner for more information. It is the opportunity of a lifetime. Students who went to Thailand in 2014 and Borneo in 2016 still talk about the amazing adventures they experienced. We only need a few more so the trip can run.
Aboriginal Practice Seminar Series for 2017
Greater Shepparton Communities for Children along with the Closing the Gap collaboration are excited to hold the first seminar of the Aboriginal Practice Seminar Series for 2017. The evening will be facilitated by Aunty Esme Bamblett from the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association.
This training is relevant to anyone working with families and children in Greater Shepparton. The evening will provide participants with knowledge, strategies and resources relating to the engagement of Koorie children and their families.

Dear Parent/Carer
Bullying, cyberbullying, safety, protection, wellbeing, and mental health are just some of the issues that we think about when discussing school safety and wellbeing.
The Australian government has made improving school safety and wellbeing a priority, and our research team in the School of Education has been tasked with updating The National Safe Schools Framework, the national policy document which outlines the government’s approach to achieving this.
As a parent or carer, your child WILL be studying under this policy from 2018, so your opinions and views really matter in how this new policy is shaped. Please take 20 mins of your time to contribute your views by completing an anonymous online survey. An information sheet is attached which can provide you with further details, and we will be happy to answer any questions that you have – our contact information can be found there.

Meningococcal School Vaccine Program
In 2017 the Victorian Secondary School Vaccine Program will offer free meningococcal ACWY vaccine to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. The vaccine provides protection against four strains of meningococcal disease (ACWY) and is administered as a single dose. The vaccine does NOT contain any live bacteria and cannot cause Meningococcal disease. In addition the vaccine will boost coverage for those adolescents that received the C strain as a baby.
Local council will deliver the vaccine program, our school is responsible for distributing information and consent cards to parents/guardians of students in Years 10, 11 and 12. The cards were handed out to students on Monday 19th June to bring home. They are due to be returned to the school by Friday 21st July. The form must be returned with either yes or no answers. The vaccination will be administered at the school by doctors organised by the council on Friday 4th August.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
To raise the awareness of the importance of coming to school everyday, Year 7 students are participating in a “June Attendance Challenge”.
Each day, selected monitors for the eight Forms collect data relating to total attendance and approved absences. If a Form has 100% attendance (which includes any approved absences) then they receive a yellow ticket. The tickets will be pooled at the end of June and then a winning ticket drawn out.
The more tickets, then the greater the probability of being drawn out to win an afternoon at Star Bowl with the Learning To Learn class.
The photograph shows that out of a total of 12 days of schooling, there are not many Forms earning that golden ticket!
Remember the phrase, “it’s not Ok to be away”, and parents are asked to ring the school to approve any genuine absences.

Italian Trip Fundraiser
To support the Italian studetns with their trip to Italy this year a fund raiser 'Resin Art Workshop' has been organised. Please see the attached flyer and photos and register asap for a great artistic experience!
