Lent
Dear Parents,
Yesterday we attended Ash Wednesday Mass to mark the beginning of Lent. During this Lenten season we prepare ourselves for the Easter season and we look forward to new beginnings as we share in joyous mystery of the Risen Lord.
Staff completed 2 days on good quality professional development, day one in the area of Assessment Capable Learners. The goal was to examine how we can build a culture of effective feedback and focus on a model to improve teaching and learning. On day two we worked on understanding and building knowledge of different learning styles. We need to keep asking ourselves (children and teachers) Why are we learning this? What am I learning? and How will I know that I have learnt it? The feedback I received from staff was very positive and has sparked an interested in knowing our children better and providing opportunities for deep learning. My thanks to all parents for having to reorganise their daily routine whilst the school was closed.
Congratulations to Matisse Gonopoulos who will now move onto the Regional Finals after finishing in first place in Breaststroke. What a fantastic achievement! Good luck Matisse.
Whilst on the subject of Swimming, we are hoping to introduce an 8 day intensive Swimming program for children in Prep to Year 2 possibly in July or November (dates to be confirmed). The government has subsidised a very small amount approximately $10.51 per child, which is not nearly enough to cover costs. Swimming is expensive due to bus costs, however the benefits of children learning to swim is what is really important. I welcome your feedback and please do not hesitate to email me if you have any concerns.
Our Open Day is on 13 March and I encourage parents to spread the word. The best advertising is by word of mouth. If you have a sibling that is due to start next year, please make sure you have completed an enrolment form by 22 March to ensure that there is a place available.
A huge thanks to the parents who helped making yummy pancakes on Tuesday and to Amanda Gill for coordinating the event. The children loved it.
Have a great long weekend, regards
Dino
