Jane Godwin Reading

On Monday we had the pleasure of having children’s author Jane Godwin come into the library to speak to the year 7’s about her novel Falling From Grace. It was great to hear about Jane’s writing process and inspiration for her books. Some students were also lucky enough to have their novels signed.

Here are some student reflections:

On Monday the 11th of November Jane Godwin came in to talk about her book, Falling From Grace, that all the year sevens had been reading. I think it was a great opportunity to get insights on how authors write their books. I was quite surprised about the fact that authors take up to a year to write a book, and how much time and planning goes into it. I found out that Jane not only writes chapter books and novels but she also writes picture books for a younger audience. Overall I really enjoyed this experience to meet the author and learn more about her book.

I enjoyed meeting Jane Godwin because we got to hear how the book was made and where she got her ideas from when writing the book. We also got an insight of her thought process when making each character.

I really enjoyed having Jane Godwin to come talk to the year 7’s about falling from grace

because it made me understand where the idea of the book came from. It was a great

experience.

Meeting Jane and hearing her stories was amazing. It was fascinating knowing that we had a really well known author standing right there in our library. It was really interesting finding out details such as why she wrote the book, what she did before she became an author and what the characters symbolise. It was very interesting how Jane said that the relationship between Grace and Annie was based on a real life relationship between her and her sister. It was great to get some background knowledge on the purpose of the book. I found it fascinating knowing things like why she chose the destination of Point Nepean and things like who Ted is based on. She explained things like, that she worked at penguin books before becoming an author she worked in publishing books. She also explained that the book was for her son and how old he was at the time. All in all it was a really wonderful experience meeting Jane and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

Library lunch time

book-club

Do you love reading?

Why not join our book-club!

The library will be running a library lunchtime book-club.

We will meet at lunchtime once a month to discuss a book, in a safe and quiet environment.

Book-club is open to all year levels, so if you love reading we would love to see you there!

On Tuesday, we held our very first library book-club session on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Unfortunately, we had slightly reduced numbers due to Year 7 PASE and senior exams. However, we still managed to have a great discussion!

For our next (and last for 2019) book-club session on Tuesday 10th December, it was decided that we will be reading A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
