Let's 'Embrace Learning'

As we come to the end of the school year, it's important to look back and reflect on just how far we have come. For our Year 7 cohort, this means conquering their very first year of Secondary school which is an amazing achievement. However, there are also many people in the ECSC community that are tackling things for the very first time this year including some of our Graduate teachers, ES staff and newly arrived students from other schools. Doing anything new can be a daunting experience so we want to celebrate some of the people in our school who have faced and overcome challenges in new learning environments this year.

Vanessa is our lovely Senior Adminstration Coordinator who began with us this year at ECSC.

Can you sum up your first year at ECSC in just one word?

Exciting!

What have you learnt in this new role?

I've learnt much better time management skills and how to deal with new parents and enquiries. How to work with lots of different staff; new and existing and how to stay calm under pressure!

What are your goals for 2020?

To continue to grow with the school and learn new skills to help move the school forward in teaching and learning.

Nurynn is a one of our new Year 8 students who arrived in Australia from Singapore in January and started at ECSC in May.

Can you sum up your first year at ECSC in just one word?

Challenging.

What is something new you have learnt this year that you are proud of?

I have learnt new sports such as basketball and footy.

What is main difference between education in Australia and in Singapore?

In Australia it is more relaxed and less stressful.

What has helped you grow as a learner this year?

The teachers and my friends have helped me a lot. If I don't understand something the teachers explain and encourage me.

Houssen is one of our Graduate teachers and has just completed a very successful first year of teaching.

Can you sum up your first year at ECSC in just one word?

Rewarding.

What has helped you grow as a teacher this year?

Reflecting and receiving feedback from students about my teaching and learning practices and implementing said feedback to ensure students are engaged while learning.

What is one thing you will take away from your first year as a teacher?

Involving students in creating learning tasks results in effective and engaging learning activities.
