Principal's Report

Principal's Report

As I read back through some of the newsletters and look through this last newsletter for the year it is truly wonderful to see so many students having the ability to be involved in so many rich learning experiences. We welcomed our new 2020 Year 7 students on Transition day and I was very proud to see our Foundation students supporting many of our new students in the classroom and during the breaks. We will grow to over 430 students for 2020 and have over 50 staff.

It was with great pride that I presented so many academic excellence; academic achievement, community and sports awards at the College's Awards Evening. As the College Principal I have very high expectations that all students try to achieve the best they can while at school both in the classroom and in extra curricula activities. It is a team effort - teachers, students and families all need to work together to maximise student learning outcomes. As we introduce more year levels the Awards Evening will continue to grow to enable us to celebrate the achievements of our students. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, family friends, staff and students who attended to celebrate so many outstanding achievements.

Farewell to Staff and Welcome to New staff.

We farewell the following staff and thank them for their commitment and contribution to the development of the College:

Alyssa Stewart; Merjam Music; Bianca Viapani and Lauren Gould.

The staff also held a baby shower morning tea to extend our best wishes to our English/Humanities teacher, Leah Aladjadjian as she takes family leave for 2020. I would like to welcome back from leave for 2020 Conrad Soderlund and welcome back to ECSC, one of our original foundation staff members, Jasmine Almatrah. Our new 2020 staff have had the opportunity to attend a whole day induction day in which they worked with our educational consultants, Bronwyn Jones and Rob Park along with the Principal team to increase their understanding of working in professional learning communities at ECSC; our Scaffolding Numeracy in Middle Years framework; Reciprocal teaching in Maths and the importance of the Developmental model of assessment that has been adopted across the College.  We welcome all the new teachers listed below:

Building Update.

As many of you will be aware the outdoor court construction is moving ahead dramatically so that the students will be able to use the courts by the start of Term 1, 2020. We were a little nervous as they lifted the Food and Art relocatable but it appears all has gone smoothly to date.

Final Thank You.

I would like to thank the Edgars Creek Secondary School Council for their support and guidance over the year. Our President Melanie Taimani, in particular who tirelessly supports the College by representing the community and working extensively earlier in the year reminding the local government on the need to fund the rest of Edgars Creek Secondary College.  Thank you to all the ECSC staff; working in a new school is both exciting and challenging and there is no doubt that the College has a dedicated and very hard-working staff group. I wish you a safe and happy festive and summer break and we look forward to welcoming over 430 students into the College community in 2020.
