Principal's Report
The School Year Begins
Welcome everyone to an exciting 2016. It is wonderful to be back and I thank everyone for their very warm reception. I hope you had a wonderful break and really enjoyed spending time with your family and friends.
New Teachers
On behalf of the Ormond Primary School community I would like to welcome our new teachers, as well as Carrie Tunnock who is returning from Family Leave.
- Jade Lipson – Prep B
- Margot Hudson – 2A
- Carrie Tunnock – Grade Sharing 3A
- Allyce Cash – 3C
- Julie Nield – 6B
- Kylie Fitzgerald – Prep – Yr 2 Teaching support
The enthusiasm, warmth and energy that these teachers bring to their classrooms will be of great benefit to their students.
Holiday Happenings : Facilities
As always the holidays are a good time to enable tasks to be completed:
- The Prep and Year 1 learning areas have been refurbished with new carpets. Villaboard has been installed in preparation for our Artists in Residence project which will commence later this month.
- The new playground has been installed and is already proving to be a popular play space for the Junior School. This playground was made possible through many school fundraising activities and a government grant.
- April and her Out of School Hours team have presented an engaging holiday program which was very well attended by many students.
- Teachers and Education Support and Office staff at school worked to ensure that all is in readiness for the school year – an amazing dedication – cars everywhere on many days over the last two weeks – fantastic effort for our students.
Attendance and Punctuality at School
Students should arrive to their class class ON TIME and ready to learn. Parents need
to assist their child to be punctual so as to create the very best opportunities for their child to learn and not miss vital instruction time which commences at 9:00am.
If students are late to school, they must be signed in at the office by their parent or guardian before heading to class.
It has been great to see the students in Prep – Year 6 settle into class so happily today including the new Preps on their first special day. They all looked very excited, attentive, keen and so smart attired in their new OPS school uniform.
Mrs Ioannou and Ms Lipson together with Ms Fitzgerald , Mrs Stewart and Mrs Park welcomed them happily into the classroom for an exciting day of learning.
Lots of first day photos, smiles and some wistful and very heartfelt looks from the Preps’ loved ones as they wished them a happy day and left waving and wondering about how they would “cope” without “them” for their first day. Some parents even managed to express relief that it all took place so smoothly.
A lovely morning tea was ready in the hall for the Prep parents and grandparents to enjoy and to spend some time reflecting about this very special day.
Thank you so much to the Ormond Parents & Friends association who helped to provide the goodies to eat, and organising every detail.
There will be lots of opportunities for new and current parents and friends to be involved in the school and your children will love seeing you here volunteering.
Please look out for these meeting dates in forthcoming newsletters.

COMPASS School Management System
Many parents may have already noticed 'events' appearing on their child's Compass profiles. These 'events' are all excursions, incursions as well as sporting, camping or general activities that will take place throughout the year.
Further down the track, the ability for parents to give consent directly online will be activated. In the meantime - the system remains the same for parents. This process is that permission notices will be sent home, parents are to complete the form and send it back to the staff member specified on the notice. Any associated payments required for the activity should still be sent to the school via the cash bag system or paid directly to the office when returning the forms.
As notices are now automatically gernerated with students names on them, generic notices will no longer be available to download from the newsletter or website if they are lost or misplaced. In the event that you do require a new notice, please contact Brodie in the office or the staff member specified on the notice before the 'return date' as forms cannot be re-printed after this date. An greater emphasis is now in place to ensure all permission forms are returned on time and kept in a safe place at home.
Any questions regarding COMPASS or login issues should be directed to Brodie in the school office.
New families to the school will recieve their Compass login information shortly.
Year 6 Shirts, Hoodies and Badges
The Year 6 students are clearly recognizable in the school as they are all wearing the new Year 6 school polo shirts. Very smart indeed! Over the next few weeks the captains will be receiving their leadership badges. Parents will be notified regarding the timing of the presentation. Hoodies will arrive towards the end of Term 1 in time for the cooler autumn weather.
School Council
The first School Council Meeting for 2016 will be held on Wednesday, 17th February at 7 pm in the Staffroom. In the next newsletter we will be seeking parent nominations for the new School Council for this year. I encourage all parents and in particular new parents to chat with school councillors about the role and to consider nomination for the four vacancies which will be available.
Emergency Procedures
In accordance with the Departmaent of Education's Emergency Management Procedures, this week we will be undertaking an Emergency Evactuation Drill for all children, staff. parents and school visitors present at the time. The students will be notified on the morning this will take place to avoid any anxiety due to the recent events. Future notifications of such drills will not be given.
Enjoy the Year
The dedicated teaching staff at Ormond Primary School look forward to celebrating the success of your child’s learning with you and your child, communicating what progress has been made and what we can do in partnership to further this learning.
