Senior School - Year 10 to 12

COVID-19 Response

We would like to communicate this important information to parents, guardians and students of Year 12, and parents, guardians and students of Year 11 who are enrolled in a Unit 3/4 subject.

If you are self-isolating at home, the immediate focus is to ensure the continuity of your learning by contacting the Year 12 coordinator.

The school supports your decision to self-isolate and requests that you contact the Year 12 coordinator to notify us of your intention prior to the start date of your absence, and particularly before any scheduled School-Based Assessment (SACs). This is to ensure that arrangements are made to protect the integrity of your VCE.

To help support you in transitioning back to school, we also request notification of your intended return date so that assessments can be scheduled in advance.

If you are self-isolating at home or the school closes for an extended period due to COVID-19, your teachers will support your continued learning by:

  • using Compass to share lesson plans as well as learning and teaching materials
  • rescheduling classroom activities and/or assessment tasks
  • being available during regular contact hours via email and Compass

Where students do not have access to the internet, we can also distribute materials to students in print format or on USBs.

If you are self-isolating at home during a scheduled School-Based Assessment (SACs), VCAA still requires us to ensure that assessments are completed mainly in class and within a limited timeframe.

Teachers must still be able to authenticate student work. To support you, the school may be able to:

  • offer you a separate space to complete the assessment
  • negotiate an alternate date for sitting a different but comparable assessment

Please contact the Year 12 coordinator to discuss the arrangements that can be made to support you to complete School-Based Assessment (SACs).

If the school closes for an extended period due to COVID 19, School-Based Assessments for all students will be rescheduled.

You will receive notification of updated assessment dates in line with VCAA requirements in order to support revision, but you are encouraged to maintain up-to-date notes and a regular learning schedule by following the lesson plans and instructions made available through Compass. This will enable the continuity of your learning and ensure that you are ready for assessment.

We acknowledge your patience and support as we work to be responsive to a changing landscape. We will continue to be transparent as we receive more updates from VCAA, with our primary motivation being to ensure no student is disadvantaged, and to give each student the opportunity to complete the requirements of their VCE studies.

International Women's Day

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Yllaria C (12F) and Sandy L (10F) were invited to attend an event hosted by Metro Trains on Tuesday, 3 March. The event focused on celebrating Metro’s diverse and inclusive workforce while offering students the opportunity to take part in a range of fun activities.

Ylarria’s reflection is below:

During Metro’s International Women’s Day celebration, we acknowledged senior women in the workforce and were reminded that we can all contribute equally.

As part of activities on the day, we formed teams for a bridge-building activity. We had an hour to build a bridge using recycled products with our teammates. From this session I learnt how to work with adults, and realised that we all have something to contribute with our knowledge.

We also listened to some talks from women who are thriving in their life and who told us that women can do as much as men. They also told us that their pathway to success wasn’t easy, but that they achieved success by not giving up.

It was a great opportunity supported by the school and we learnt a lot. The day was totally worthwhile not just because of the food but also for the knowledge and positivity I took from the day.

VCAL Toasty Day

On Tuesday, 17 March, the Year 11 VCAL students hosted an inviting and wonderful toasty lunch for their peers to celebrate the end of Term 1.

The focus of this lunch was to develop skills such as teamwork, responsibility and leadership, while encouraging each other to work efficiently to meet deadlines in the lead-up to the event.

The event ran very smoothly with students following important safety procedures to work in teams, making a range of delicious toasties.

We thank the staff and students who attended and made the event a pleasant experience.

The VCAL students look forward to hosting their next event.
