Soundworks First Rehearsal

On Monday, 16 March we held our first rehearsal for Soundworks. This is our junior concert band comprising all Year 7 students who have begun learning a wind instrument such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone, as well as percussion.

Soundworks will rehearse on Mondays after school until 4:30pm. Our first rehearsal was a huge success and the students played through the first ten songs in their band method book together.

Students learnt where they needed to sit in the band, how to tune their instruments and to play together by following the conductor.

All students were very attentive and listened eagerly to the many words of wisdom from Mr Ondaatje. All Year 7 wind and percussion students are reminded that they must attend Soundworks rehearsals in order to learn an instrument at school.

Instrumental Music and COVID-19

To avoid the risk of having instruments left at school incase of a school closure, all students should take their instruments home every night. If school does close for any period of time, students should keep an eye out for lesson plans on compass. Just as for any other subjects, instrumental teachers will be preparing lesson plans for their classes and giving work to those who are not attending class.

Please keep up your practice routine and contact your teacher via Compass if you have any difficulties. Teachers may ask you to upload videos of your practice results.

Welcome to our New Cello Teacher

We are very excited to announce the appointment of Keryn Lientschnig as our new cello teacher to assist Howard Dillon with the huge intake of new string students in Year 7.

Keryn is a professional cellist with many years of playing and teaching experience and has already been a big hit with our cello students in her first two weeks of teaching.

Generations In Jazz Cancelled

We were very disappointed to hear that due to the current uncertainty with coronavirus, that the school Jazz festival in Mt Gambier, Generations In Jazz, has been cancelled. It was to be the first time we had a band eligible to enter and the band members and staff were very excited to be going. We will hope for other performance opportunities later in the year when hopefully, life becomes more settled.

Music Camp Postponed

Unfortunately Music Camp has also been postponed at least for now. Depending on how things develop during second term, we hope that we can run an in-house workshop with all the ensembles to prepare for the Winter Concert on Tuesday, 2 June.
