International Students

International Student reflection on their trip to Cairns

As a Year 12 International student at Doncaster Secondary College, I found myself facing lots of challenges and many homework. So this Easter holiday, I travelled to Cairns to try something new.

Skydiving has been something I always wanted to do, and here I was, stepping out of the plane up in the sky. After doing this, I don't think I will ever be afraid of anything again. I also went to the Great Barrier Reef. We went scuba diving which was such an amazing experience for me seeing marine life so close up.

One of the most interesting things I did was a street performance. With my guitar, I sang to a group of locals and visitors on the street. The audience was impressed by my performance and I received applause and some donations. The singer who was organiz=sing this event said I was a very good street performer and I could make good money out of this. I think I am quite ‘famous’ now in Cairns.

The journey to Cairns taught me that travelling is not only for playing but also a learning experience. I learnt how to be independent, how to make new friends, how to be organised and most importantly how to have fun. I also think this trip changed my attitude towards life in the future.

Monash University's International Student Experience Day

On Friday, 26 April, our year 12 International Students were invited to attend Monash's International Student Experience Day. They joined interactive workshops to explore different study areas. They also had a chat with Monash staff and current students about strategies on how to succeed in their final school years. The highlight of the day was attending faculty expos where students could ask any course-related questions. I was very proud to see the students supporting each other and representing the college brilliantly with their excellent behaviour during the whole day event. We had a good bonding day together!
