On Monday in the first week of holidays, the boys in the Year 12 Cohort left Victoria and travelled to Mathoura, NSW, for their final camp together as a group. On arriving at the campsite, many tasks needed to be completed for the camp to be successful. This included setting up tents, digging holes for the fire pit and even digging the hole for the dunny. While these seemed like difficult tasks, team work made the dream work, which allowed us to power through these chores!
After setting up, the students and teachers were able to relax before tucker was served. In the evening before bed, the cohort of boys came together around the campfire where we were able to spend time bonding and socialising together, which we rarely get in the busy day of a Year 12 student. Here, stories were told and memories were made around the campfire before Lachlan (one of our ex-students) gave a devotion to us before we went off to rest after a busy day.
The next two days of our camp was more relaxing. Some of the popular activities included fishing, chopping wood and taking bush walks. Unlike other camps there was no schedule to our boys camp, which meant there was lots of free time for us to bond together and talk to other Year 12 students, who normally we may not get the chance to talk to. As a Year 12 student myself, I had the privilege to watch our cohort talk about their personal stories and connect with others in a more meaningful way. It was a really good camp because we didn’t have to worry about the outside stress associated with school. We could simply relax, and enjoy being with friends and nature. This camp not only made our bonds stronger, but gave us the chance to learn about each other and different life skills such as preparing food and tying a hook on a fishing line. There was something for everyone to take away from the camp!
On our final day at camp there was lots of cleaning to do. We filled holes, took down tents and took our final photo together at camp before we started to head home. While we were tired, it proved to be a great camp for us to bond. Even Mr Latham popped in to see us.
A big thank you Mr Greenhough, Mr Trubody, Mr Madden and Mr Ibanez for making the camp successful and one to remember!
