Deputy Principal - Academic
Mr Richard Baird
Our Principal, Mrs McAuliffe, mentioned last week that there were some modifications to the carpark drop off and pick up, as work on the new Junior Years building has commenced. I want to thank our community for your willingness to embrace the new changes and also thank you for the feedback we received.
After diligent evaluation of the new Junior Years building, the College awarded the contract to E.J. Lyons & Sons Pty Ltd.
We are anticipating a build time of just under a year and are hopeful that our students will move into the new building prior to this time next year. We are planning that all of the Year 1- 4 students (current Prep - Year 3 students) will move into the new building as soon as it is completed.
Learning spaces at GNLC are deliberately designed to allow students to engage in deep learning and to be agile across a range of learning tasks from whole group to project teams and independent focused work. Physical spaces are designed to operate flexibly to support contemporary pedagogy, multi-disciplinary project-based learning, inquiry combined with explicit teaching and to support authentic experiences that align to the changing nature of work in the world.
The new building will have 8 classrooms downstairs and 8 classrooms upstairs as well as a specialist Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) room, a multipurpose performing arts area (with pull out raised seating), a media room, as well as various offices, break out spaces, a small kitchen and a learning enrichment space.
This is a very exciting time for the College, and we appreciate your patience as work commences. I will keep you updated on our progress and send further images of the internal layout in the coming months.
