Helmets: When riding any bike, the rider and any passengers are required to wear a properly fitting and fastened helmet. The helmets must meet Australian safety standard AS/NZSS2063. Penalties: Fail to wear securely fitted approved bicycle helmet - $207.
Riding on footpaths: You can ride on the footpath if you are: - 13 years of age or under - 18 years and over riding with a child under the age of 13, or - 18 years and over and you have a child in a seat attached to your bicycle or a child pedaling on a bike attachment connected to your bicycle. Penalties: Ride on part of separated footpath designed for pedestrians - $165
Mobile phones: When riding a bicycle, you must not hold a mobile phone in your hand to send messages, make and receive calls or use navigational aids. The mobile phone must be affixed to the bicycle and can only be used for calls, listening to music and GPS navigation. Penalties: Use of handheld mobile phone by rider of bicycle or person on wheeled recreation device or driver of vehicle that is not a motor vehicle - $496
