Prep

LI: To understand how to create a T-shirt that represents my first year at school.

Learners will work towards designing and creating a t-shirt that will be used in their end of year celebrations. They will reflect on all they have learnt in their first year of school and transfer this understanding through pictures. 

Year 1

LI: To understand how to create a texture fish out of clay.

Learners will investigate the fundamental skills with using clay. Throughout the term they will develop a deeper understanding of the different techniques that can be used when creating sculptures using clay, with a focus on creating texture. 

Year 2

LI: To understand how to create a character using symbols and colours.

Learners will be investigating different careers within the Arts with a focus on costume design, creation and performance. Learners will design a hand puppet that represents the characteristics of their chosen character through the use of colours and symbols. 

Year 3

LI: To understand how to create a sculpture using clay.

Learners will deepen their understanding of sculpture through the creation of a 3D turtle. They will learn the skills required to work with clay, especially the slip and score technique. 

Year 4

LI: To understand how to create tints and shades. 

Learners will investigate mixing tints and shades and deepen their understanding of colour theory. They will then transfer this knowledge to the creation of an artwork heavily focusing on the use of tints and shades. 

Year 5

LI: To understand how to create a sculpture of a Marine Animal using clay.

Learners will design their clay marine animal and develop their skills in handbuilding throughout the term. Learners will be challenged to learn new techniques and deepen their understanding of the qualities of clay. 

Year 6

LI: To understand how to create patterns that will reflect light.

Learners will be transferring their understanding of light reflection to design and create a sculpture that reflects light in interesting ways. Their artworks will be used to support their inquiry units for term 4.
