Prep

LI: To develop correct kicking technique

Students will develop the knowledge and skills to perform the fundamental movement skill of kicking. Following a step by step sequence, students will learn to kick a ball with correct technique and increased accuracy. Throughout this unit, students will work closely with others, encouraging cooperation and turn-taking.

LI: To handle an object or piece of game equipment with control

Students will develop the skills to manipulate objects with their feet, hands and body. They will practice sending, controlling and receiving objects in various ways, such as kicking, throwing, dribbling, catching and striking. Object control and manipulation assists in the development of fine and gross motor skills.

Year 1 and 2

LI: To develop correct punt kicking technique

Students will learn the correct technique to perform a punt kick. Most commonly used in Australian Rules Football, the punt kick requires increased hand-eye coordination, balance and control. Students will begin by learning the fundamental movement steps in isolation, progressing to be able to link and perform the entire movement sequence in one motion.

LI: To develop correct technique to perform gymnastics skills

Students will explore a range of movement skills within a gymnastics setting. They will learn the correct technique required to safely perform movements such as rolling, balancing and jumping. Students will focus on balancing and what helps them to maintain a stable position, whilst demonstrating how to transfer weight from one part of the body to another.

Year 3 and 4

LI: To identify and explore lifelong physical activities

Students will investigate the features of physical activities which make them suitable for lifelong participation, as well as developing an understanding of the importance of remaining physically active for a lifetime. They will be able to apply this knowledge to their own physical activity routines.  Students will be able to reflect on their participation in physical activities and identify their likes and dislikes in order to make informed and better physical activity choices.

LI: To perform and link fundamental gymnastic skills.

Students will spend time exploring fundamental movement skills within the context of gymnastics.  They will be able to identify the movement sequences of a variety of skills including tumbling, balances and jumps.  Students will be able to apply this knowledge in order to link two or more skills together.  Students will reflect on their performance in order to refine skills.

Year 5 and 6

LI: To explore and describe the health-related benefits of lifelong physical activity

Students will build on their knowledge of physical activities to understand what activities are suitable for remaining physically active for a lifetime.  They will be able to identify and describe the physical and mental health benefits of staying physically active and apply this knowledge to their own physical activity routines.  Students will be able to reflect on theirs and others physical activity behaviours in order to make improvements which will benefit theirs and others health.

LI: To design and perform a variety of gymnastic skills and sequences.

Students will refine their knowledge of gymnastics skills and movement sequences, such as tumbling, jumps and balances.  They will be able to identify and perform movement sequences with control and fluency.  Working independently or in small groups, students will be able to apply their knowledge in order to link gymnastics skills to create short routines or performances.  Students will reflect on their routines and performance in order to make improvements.
