Dr Philip Charlesworth commenced his career in climatology and agricultural research in Australia. He transitioned to international development in 2005. Phillip spent 14 years in Cambodia with a variety of agricultural development projects, working for the government, bilateral organisations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He has designed large bilateral programs, such as US. Agency for International Development (USAID) Feed the Future contracts in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Senegal and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) programs in Cambodia. He previously co-owned a sales/agronomy agribusiness in Cambodia.
His interests include researching, designing, and implementing elegant market-based solutions to value chain gaps. He holds a Ph.D. in agriculture from Charles Sturt University, Australia.

In this interview, Philip provides an overview of the current mindset of farmers in Cambodia and provides insights on the ways to address the changing needs of farmers. International Development Entreprises is one of the key partners of the PADEE, Program for Agricultural Development and Economic Empowerement. in this program iDE provides specific extension services to farmers by introducing new business models and trade mechanisms with consultative services to farmers and farmer groups.
