COHR Italian Day

Ciao a tutti!

Italian Day was celebrated on Monday 21st June at Christ Holy Redeemer Primary School. The cultural event was very well received and enjoyed by all, evident from the positive feedback provided from staff, students and parents. It was very overwhelming! Grazie mille!

It was wonderful to see all the amazing Italian-influenced costumes on display! Congratulations to all on a fantastic effort! The students were able to display their costumes and Italian colours during the parade.

The day began with a whole school Liturgy, which featured Cooper  in 5/6F sing the ‘Ave Maria’, so beautifully. There was a spectacular traditional Tarantella dance demonstration by some year 5/6 Students. ‘Fantastico!’

The whole school was entertained by ‘La Comica' Variety Productions with an Italian theatre performance entitled, ‘La Festa’, which linked with the Italian Day theme, ‘La Festa Italiana’.

The students participated in a variety of activities such as; bocce, tombola, dance, Map of Italy filled with Pasta and Mona Lisa art work. These activities enriched their knowledge of the Italian culture.

Everyone enjoyed the Italian food that consisted of Crostoli and Pizza. Thank you to our providers for the food. In particular Tarantino’s Pizzeria and Dolci by Frank. A big thankyou also to our dedicated Parents Association for their great organisation of the Italian lunch.

Well done to all COHR staff and students for their tremendous effort, enthusiasm and participation on Italian Day! It was a most spectacular and successful day!

Grazie mille,

Daniela Vecchi

Teacher of Italian.

Here’s what some of the students had to say about Italian.

‘It was Amazing! I loved Signora’s enthusiasm and commitment. As for the activities, they were fantastic! We played ‘bocce, and created Italian artwork. I loved the Incursion. It was so funny and entertaining. Wearing the costumes was great and let’s not forget about the food. The pizza and crostoli was so tasty! I hope we do it again next year!’ - Miette 3/4I

‘I loved Italian Day because of the fun activities we did and dressing up was fun too. I also loved all the food.  I especially loved the Italian Incursion! THE DAY WAS AMAZING! Grazie Signora Vecchi.’ - Bethany 3/4I

‘On Italian Day, we did activities. They were bocce, bingo and making a Map of Italy out of pasta. For lunch, I had pasta. There was a really funny show called ‘La Festa’. I dressed up as a chef. It was a really fun day!’ - Oliver 1/2Gold

‘On Monday the 21st of June, the students of COHR along with the teachers celebrated Italian day. This day was very fun and educational, many people dressed up in Italian themed costumes such as the Italian colours, chefs, pizza and more. The day started off with an assembly on the asphalt and a parade showing off all the students’ costumes. The year 6 students introduced the choir, singing the Italian song ‘Bella Ciao’. Then Cooper sang ‘Ave Maria’. After the morning assembly the students along with the teachers all went to the hall to watch the very funny performance called ‘La Festa’. After that performance it was recess. The students ate crostoli for recess and pizza for lunch. After play time it was time for the Italian day rotations. These rotations included Bocce, colouring in the Mona Lisa, tracing the Italian map with pasta, tombola and very fun dancing. These activities were done over the middle block and after lunch. We thank Signora Vecchi for planning such a fun day and we hope it will happen again soon!’               - Cooper, Zoe and Samuel
