Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am incredibly grateful for the work of staff and parents/carers in ensuring continuity of learning for our students this week. None of us imagined four weeks ago that this is where we would be again with students learning from home.

This is a period of significant adjustment for the school and our families. I am very appreciative of your patience and understanding as we do our part to keep our community safe. We are very aware that most parents are working with children also learning at home. We understand that you may be limited in the support you can provide for your child and therefore some of their work may not get done. Most of our staff are also working remotely unless rostered for supervision and like you are also managing their own children's learning.

Today in this newsletter, I would like to provide you with information for next week.

Week 2 Home Learning Schedules

Teachers are currently preparing next week's Home Learning Schedules for your child/ren. These will be available from 5:00 pm Sunday on SeeSaw and the SJB Home Learning Website. Some children have alternate Home Learning Schedules to meet their particular learning needs and these will be sent directly to those families who received them this week.

You will note that in Week 2 students will be introduced to some new learning and may need additional support with this. Most teachers have planned to explain this to students via Zoom in Year 3 to 6, and via a video in Kinder to Year 2.

Home Learning Packs

Now that another two weeks of Remote Learning have been confirmed by the Premier, Home Learning Packs are being prepared. These packs will contain additional resources for next week and will be ready to collect from school on Friday between 8:00am and 4:30 pm.

Please note:

Staff will have Home Learning Packs ready at the Rowan Street office entry gate. Please drive up and they will be delivered to your car by staff wearing gloves and masks.
OR
You may also opt to collect early on Monday if needed by phoning or emailing the school office.

School Photos

School photos have arrived and will be included in the Home Learning Packs.

Students on Zoom

This week, teachers in Years 3 to 6 began using Zoom with students. The purpose of using Zoom is to allow students to connect with their teachers and each other and an opportunity to seek clarification and ask questions about their learning tasks.

I was able to spend some time in these Zooms this week and was delighted with how well students accessed the platform, their respect for our Zoom protocols, and their delight in seeing one another and their teachers.  Congratulations to these students and their wonderful teachers.

Next week, Year 1 and 2 students will have an opportunity to connect with their teachers via Zoom. Information will be provided to parents by the end of this week.

Record of Absences during Remote Learning

Please ensure your child has signed in each day before 12:00 pm using the link on the SJB Home Learning Website or their Remote Learning Schedule. Once signed in, your child/ren will be marked on the school rolls as a "Present" attendance by the school office.

If your child does not sign in they will be marked on the Roll as "Absent".

If your child cannot engage in remote learning for the day due to illness or for another reason, please contact the school office via email at info@sjbdow.catholic.edu.au or phone 42831111 so the appropriate notation can be made in Compass by office staff.

Whole School Digital Assembly

At the end of Week 2, we will host our first school assembly for the term. These were very popular last year during remote learning and many families enjoyed the assembly together as a family on a Friday night.

The link to the assembly recording will be provided next week. Very exciting, I know!

End of Term 2 Awards and Principal's Awards

Unfortunately, we were unable to hand out the Term 2 Awards at the end of the last term. These will be included in the Home Learning Packs for those students who received an award as listed in Week 10 newsletter.

We will announce those students at our digital school assembly late next week.

Year 5 Canberra Excursion

The Year 5 Canberra overnight excursion scheduled for Week 3 has been postponed and we are in the process of reorganising this for early in Term 4.  Dates and information will be provided to Year 5 parents as soon as possible.

Who knows what is down the track but for now, we are here, and we are focused on our students. May God continue to embrace our school community, pour truth and light upon us all, and grace us with strength, peace, and a sense of calm.

St Joseph, pray for us.

Jen Charadia

Principal

Principal Awards and Merit Awards

Principal's Awards and Merit Awards will resume at a date to be advised.
