Year 7 Summit Camp

On Monday the 24th of May, the Summit welcomed the first batch of McClelland College year 7’s for their 3-day camp. After settling into the tents and having lunch it was straight into initiatives and first rotations of activities. The activities were, Sky Bridge, Orienteering, Tash’s Ladder, Flying Fox, High Wire and Caving.

Each tribe would also come up with tribe identities, so we welcomed Air Raiders, The Zingers, Untitled, Team Bobs and The Gals were the names chosen for tribe names.

Here are the tribe results from each of the challenges:

Photo Scavenger Hunt:

Untitled - 360 points,

Team Bobs - 400 points

The Zingers - 560 points (winners)

Snowy River Challenge results:

The Zingers - 40. 31,

The Gals - 26.36

Air Raiders - 16.19 (winning time)

Monster Course Improvement time:

The Zingers - 8.35

Untitled - 9.40,

Team Bob’s - 10.06,

Air Raiders - 11.02

The Gals - 14.24 (best improved time)

The weather remained fine and the students were to be able to enjoy the camp without any rain. This certainly helped everyone achieve their Target, Stretch, and Super Stretches.

At the end of camp, each tribe voted for a member in their tribe who lived by the Five Keys of the camp (Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If) these members were rewarded with a ride in the army tank.

Congratulations to Rayo, Levi, Hannah, Stephan, and Aleah!!

The second camp also had a fantastic time at the Summit camp, however unfortunately they were not as lucky as the first when it came to a couple of things. They were hit with some rain on the second day, however it didn’t slow them down. All students showed great grit and determination and pushed through their activities with great energy and enjoyment which ended in fantastic results. Unfortunately the camp was cut short due to the Covid lockdown. The students missed out on only 2 rotations as they departed late Thursday evening. This did not dampen the spirits of the students, with all having an awesome camp.

Thanks to all of he staff for helping out on the camp.
