WELCOME BACK

We welcome all families to an exciting term 3, and what a start it has been.

We are very proud of the way all students took the news of the new lockdown and distance learning in their stride and have adapted so well to learning from home again. Everyone was positive on Friday and you should all be proud of the effort and determination your children are showing. It is advised that the current lockdown will continue until 11.59 pm Tuesday 27 July next week.

Remote learning will continue to be in place for this period, with onsite learning for essential service workers children and vulnerable children.

There are many learning opportunities planned for all of our students and we all have much to look forward to, including excursions, swimming and camps. Advice on whether or not our current lockdown situation will affect any of these planned events will be communicated to you as soon as we receive any formal advice.

In the meantime, supporting your children and helping them maintain a positive attitude to home learning is really important whilst taking the time to care for yourself and those around you.

STUDENT REPORTS

We hope all families have been able to access the semester 1 student reports. These are available on Compass and will remain visible to you as parents whilst your children are enrolled at Carnegie Primary School. Before your child leaves Carnegie PS, please make sure you download and save their reports in order to be able to access them at a later date. If you have not managed to view the reports, please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance.

LOVELY NEWS TO SHARE WITH FAMILIES

It is with pleasure that I let the community know that there will be more patters of tiny feet around Carnegie Primary School before too long. We are very happy to announce that Peta Bourke and her partner are expecting a baby later this year. Congratulations to Peta and Dan on this wonderful news.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

We received updated Covid-19 guidelines from the Department of Education. Please read the dot points below for items relevant to you, as parents and carers.

1. If you need to enter the school buildings eg to drop off a lunch or see someone in the office area, please check in with our QR code. QR code check ins are required to be used by all parents who enter school buildings and when on site so please remember to bring your phone with you even if you are only stopping in for a moment.

2. Face masks are required if parents and carers are inside school buildings. Face masks continue to be recommended outdoors when 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained.

3. Parents and carers are welcome to attend Monday morning assemblies which are held outdoors. At this stage our Friday assemblies will need to continue to be streamed to our community.

STAFFING UPDATE

As we commence term 3, we welcome Kylie Chadwick to CPS. Kylie will spend the duration of Linda Jones’ Long Service leave in year 5, teaching 5A and 5B during this time.

Allison Fisher is continuing as the year 1E classroom teacher while Dominique Oosterbaan is on leave. Our students are certainly fortunate to have replacement teachers such as Kylie and Allison teaching them.

Alex Pym also began working as part of the year 5 team. Alex will be supporting the year 5 team twice a week as Stephen Chilver reduces his hours to care for his young daughter.

BIKES AND CHILDREN

More and more CPS students are choosing to ride their bikes or scooters to school when the weather is fine. There seems to be a need to clarify the helmet rules. The guidelines from the VicRoads website state:-

All bike and scooter riders are required to wear a bike helmet in Victoria.

Mandatory bicycle helmet laws were introduced in July 1990. This applies when riding:

  • on roads and road-related areas
  • on bike and shared paths
  • in bike lanes
  • in recreational parks
  • in car parks
  • on footpaths

Children can ride on the road but it may be safer on the footpath. Children under the age of 12 can ride on footpaths. If you are an adult supervising a child under 12, you can ride with them on the footpath.
