Apple Family Sharing

Have you heard about - Apple Family Sharing?

At Warrnambool East Primary School, we care about making your child's technology experience safe and manageable. Family Sharing is a feature that allows you and up to five other family members to share access to Apple services, such as iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Arcade. Family Sharing also has benefits such as better cost management and keeping children safe online.

Better cost management

Sharing purchases has never been easier! When you use Family Sharing, your whole family can share access to the same Apple subscriptions. Bundling everything together you can enjoy more value for everyone and avoid buying the same thing multiple times for each person. When you set up purchase sharing, everyone in the family gets access to the apps, music, films, TV shows and books that family members buy. With ‘Ask to Buy’, you have control over what your kids can purchase or download, ensuring their safety and guiding their choices.

To set up Ask to Buy:

  • Go to Settings on your iOS device.
  • Tap on your name at the top of the Settings menu.
  • Select Family Sharing.
  • Tap on your child's name, then tap Ask to Buy.
  • Toggle on Require Purchase Approval

Keeping your children safe online

We understand how crucial it is to keep your children safe in the digital world. With Family Sharing, your personal files and preferences remain private, and children can even use their Apple ID to access their accounts on their devices. Parents and guardians can also create age-appropriate content access, Screen Time settings, and more by setting up Apple IDs for their kids in the family under 13.

To use Screen Time:

  • Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  • Tap on Screen Time.
  • Select your child's device or tap Set Up Family Sharing to set up Screen Time for your family.
  • Follow the prompts to customise Screen Time settings for your child

Setting up Family Sharing

Setting up Family Sharing is quick and seamless. The family organiser invites family members, and when they join, they get instant access to the group's subscriptions and content eligible for sharing. Each family member uses their account, so everyone's experience stays personalised, and private.
