From the Classroom

Year 5 Maths

The Year 5 students explored the topic of Volume and Capacity during Mathematics sessions last week. They completed a hands-on task as a cohort where they created different vessels out of foil, estimated how many MAB blocks would fit inside and then measured each side, using one of the formulas to calculate the actual volume.

“It was good when we worked with students in other classes and got to learn different ways to do Maths.” - Giovanni 5W

“I learnt the different ways other people solve Maths problems.” - Jack K 5W

“I learnt that there are two formulas to calculate volume V= LxWxH and V=bh. I enjoyed working with my friends from other classes and making the vessel and measuring the volume with the MAB”. – Izzy 5W

“I enjoyed having to put MAB into the foil to find the volume and capacity of my vessel” – Lewis 5E

“I liked how we got to work with people from other classes as we don’t get to work with them often” – Layla E 5E

“I liked how we had to create our own vessel with foil and to use MAB to find the Volume and Capacity of the vessel” – Brock 5E

“One of the most exciting things was when we added the height times the width times the length to get the volume. The best part was working as a group and getting it correct altogether” - Mitchell 5D

“When we were measuring the capacity of the foil objects it was really fun with other Year 5s. The best part was counting the capacity” – Ally 5D

“It was really fun working all together as a Year 5 cohort. The best part was working it out as a group” – Sam 5D

Year 6 Bingo Night

The room was decorated, the tables set, pens and bingo cards ready ... all was set for a fabulous night, and it didn't disappoint.  The students had such a memorable evening, evidenced by these glowing reflections ...

My Bingo Reflection

Bingo Night was an extraordinary experience! When we walked in, the teachers were playing Taylor Swift music and the room had spectacular decorations. We all got soft drinks, chips and lolly bags! At 5.pm we took our seats and began the game of BINGO! The numbers were all being called out and you could always hear someone say “Yes!” After that round we were all told to look under our chairs and some lucky winners saw a piece of paper saying “Free prize!” Next, we played a few more games of bingo with super fun mini-games in between each round. Overall, the night was incredible and we all had a great time.

Bingo Night

Bingo Night! What a phenomenal ‘once in a life time’ experience. Decorations everywhere, music blasting, students cheering, no ordinary night could have ever looked like this. Yes, prizes may have been the only thing stuck up in each student’s mind, yet this competitiveness seemed to bump up the level of joyfulness. Such high pressure! Each time a number was called out (especially when that number could determine the extremely fortunate victor). It couldn’t be described purely with words. No matter who came out victorious, encouragements came pouring down, completely filling the air. This sensation could only be expressed as beyond the imagination.
