This week on Wednesday 2nd August our Foundation students reached a once in a lifetime milestone - their 100th Day of School!
It was wonderful to see the students - and teachers - celebrate such an occasion by dressing up in a variety of ways. We had many students who appeared to have aged dramatically overnight as they arrived at school as 100 year olds, complete with walking frames and grey hair! It was fantastic seeing the creative ways other students represented their 100th day – I saw someone covered in 100 bandaids, 100 cutouts of their name and even 100 sponges for all the learning they had ‘soaked up’ over 100 days. The originality was impressive!
The students had a brilliant day moving through a variety of activities with the theme of “100”. When talking to students about their day, a highlight was certainly scavenger hunt where Foundation students and their Year 5 buddies worked together to roam the school looking for the numbers 1-100. There were shouts of excitement as they discovered numbers hidden in interesting places!
When visiting the Foundation space across the day it was great to hear the students talking about their work and how they had represented the number 100. I asked what their favourite thing had been about the day, and how they were “100 Days Smarter” now – here are some of the responses:
“My favourite thing was the scavenger hunt because we had to find numbers.” Kassia, FD
“My favourite thing was painting 100 gum balls!” Hudson, FD
“My favourite thing was painting the 100th Day crown. One way I am ‘100 Days Smarter’ is that I know how to write lots of words” Sophia, FE
“My favourite thing was looking for all the numbers with my buddy. Now that I am ‘100 Days Smarter’ I know how to sound words out” Alex, FE
“My favourite thing was when we went with our buddies and found the numbers” Emma, FB
“My favourite part was playing outside. Now that I am 100 Days Smarter I can run faster!” Luciano, FB
With so much excitement and learning already in these first 100 days, we look forward to seeing what else can be achieved throughout the rest of the year. Congratulations Foundation students, we are so proud of you!
A very special thank you must also go to the dedicated Foundation team for the work and planning that went in to recognising this special day. The smiles said it all!
Warm Regards,
