Principal's Report
Simone Wood, Principal
Hi Everyone,
This term is slipping away from us quicker than expected. Spring seems to be only just around the corner by the looks of our current weather patterns. However with Spring comes the opportunity to get a few more things done around the school. At the end of the term we hope to be able to finally get into the creekside area and plant out the native trees for Melbourne water. We can get another load of sand for the sandpit and get cracking on garden beds that will love a bit of a spruce up. The 5/6 students have just participated in 2 preparation for puberty sessions. They are certainly growing up and just think, they are much closer now to their next level of schooling! Over the next couple of weeks, our kitchen garden sessions will commence (thank you to parents who have volunteered their time to help with kitchen garden. It isn't too late to join in the fun. Please see your child's classroom teacher), and we will have:
A note from the Wear it Purple people:
Wear it Purple shares the same goals of Australian school systems in providing the foundation for Inclusive Education of which all students can take part. We share the same goal of ensuring that we create a safe, caring school environment in which students are nurtured as they learn while recognising the diversity within the school community and providing programs and support which acknowledge difference to promote harmony. Under the ‘Every Student is Known, Valued and Cared For’ strategic framework, it is paramount that schools establish and sustain structures to support student individual wellbeing.
Under the new Departmental system schools will have been receiving 'expression of interest to enrol' applications from families who wish to be considered for enrolment at a particular school. This more commonly happens in larger schools with limited room. However here at Newham, we have room and therefore we provided families with enrolment forms rather that the 'expression of interest' application to enrol form. Currently many other schools will be notifying parents that their applications have been successful (or not) and providing successful candidates with enrolment forms to be returned to them by the end of August. We have been able to skip that stage and go straight to confirmation of enrolment. There is no need to panic about the new system and the outcome here at Newham but if you have any questions, please contact the office.
The AFL sporting program have found it difficult to provide trained coaches for their promised program with us. Consequently they have only been able to provide us with 4 Friday sessions rather than the 6. However they have allowed us to transfer the missed portion of the program into new equipment which is a nice consolation prize.
Please consider joining us for the Father's Day brekkie on Friday 1st September (there is an invitation in the notices section). There will be an all you can eat spread of toast, pancakes, juices, tea and coffee.
We hope to see you there!
