What's happening in Performing and Visual Arts?
In Performing Arts, students across all year levels have started to rehearse for the big Arts Festival and the Senior Production coming up in both Term 3 and Term 4. Final touches have been added to the scripts and now students are getting ready by practicing their lines, designing their costumes and creating some promotional material such as posters and programs. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to cheer for our students and witness their talents on the two following dates:
- CJC ARTS FESTIVAL (Friday, September 8th)
- SENIOR PRODUCTION (Wednesday, October 25th)
What's happening in Digitec?
Grade 3/4s have been working on their design skills to create these fantastic advertisement posters on Canva. This is part of an ongoing project where students have coded a virtual pet via Make Code to use on the Micro:bits. They have created ‘pet costumes’ for the Micro:bits and next they will record a TV advertisement to sell their toys. Well done everyone!

Our Inquiry topic for this term is Adaptation. We are studying ‘How Living Things Adapt to Change’.
In order to demonstrate how animals, people and plants adapt, we (the year 5/6 students) did an experiment to get the idea of adaptation and how to adapt.
What we had to do was: we were not allowed to use our dominant hand (the hand that you write with) for the entire middle block during the school day. To remind us that we weren't allowed to use that hand we wore a glove on our dominant hand. It was really challenging because we had to write and eat with one hand and most of us had to use our mouths at one stage or another! Even our teacher participated!! The real challenge was not having two hands to use when needed. You’d be surprised how hard it was!!! Simple things like picking up a computer suddenly became really difficult.
Teamwork was needed to complete most of everyday actions. Tying shoelaces suddenly needed two people at least to make it work. Even eating with one hand was really hard. Overall, it was an enjoyable and challenging activity for everybody. We had great fun trying to adapt and getting used to using one hand, and we strongly recommend it for you to try at home.
