Rube Goldberg Simple Normal Humdrum School Day

Read and Listen to the story Rube Goldberg Simple Normal Humdrum School Day’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOADzs7nK7o

by Jennifer George

‘It's early on an ordinary morning, down an ordinary street, on an ordinary day, at an ordinary school, except for all the innovative students at Lysterfield Primary School.’

Task:

As an inventor and a tinkerer you are going to design an innovative epic contraption, just like Rube Goldberg.

You need to design an invention or contraption that will make your day at school easier. It can be any aspect of school, from solving mathematical problems, borrowing a book from the library, or even dunking a basketball.

Here is what you will need to do:

  1. Decide on an idea.
  2. Come up with a creative/funny name ‘A sneaky way to get out of class early’
  3. Plan and design your contraption.
  4. Write down the steps explaining how your contraption works OR ask an adult to write down the steps about how your contraption works.
  5. Colour in your design and hand it into your STEM teacher by September 4th, 2023

This is to be done at home and is completely optional. If you would like to be involved in SCIENCE WEEK, please see Mrs. Adams or Mrs. Chamberlain during your STEM class. We will give you the paper and resources needed.

Sustainability Trophy at Assembly

Are you ready for someexciting sustainability news? We are introducing a new trophy to our weekly assembly. The sustainability trophy! The Green Team will be coming around to all classes each Friday to count the number students who have brought a wrapper free lunch to school. The Junior School and Senior School class with the most wrapper free lunches will win a trophy at assembly. This incentive is part of a schoolwide plan to reduce the amount of rubbish that is brought to school, and teach children about the variety of ways that we can reduce the amount of waste we produce as a community. Here are some simple ideas families can discuss and try to go Wrapper Free!

Students can bring lunchboxes with compartments so there is no need for small packets of chips/cookies/other snacks
