Werribee Gorge Excursion
On Wednesday 19 July, the Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class travelled to Werribee Gorge. The class partook in a 7km hike, walking the Short Circuit trail which got up to an elevation of nearly 280m! The students walked to the Eastern Viewpoint, to take in a grand view of the Pentland Hills countryside, several students remarked on how they had never seen a view of this before, which was a rewarding thing to hear as their classroom teacher that we could facilitate a memorable experience for them. The students stopped for a picnic lunch at the top of the Gorge, where they learned about the traditional owners of the land, the Wurundjeri people. Students also learned about several native animals including the Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Koalas, and Platypus’. Despite the sore legs from the hilly hike, this experience has encouraged students to be better advocates for Outdoor Environments and they are excited to now plan their own excursion to occur in Term 4.
I had the great privilege of leading this group of students and I was very proud of each of them for persevering when the walk got tough.
