School Pix - Photos 'Catch Up' Day

On Thursday April 7th, School Pix will be returning to Rangeview to catch up any sibling photos or absent students on our original Photos Day.

Harmony Week

As Marika mentioned in the Principal’s Report, this week is Harmony Week. Whilst we are running our whole school celebrations on Friday March 25th, I would encourage all of you to discuss the meaning of Harmony Week at home across the entire week, so that our students are informed and aware of the aims and purposes of this event before Friday. The more work we can do together as a school community to acknowledge and build respect and understanding towards cultural diversity, the greater the wellbeing and engagement of our student population!

We are extremely grateful to have such a diverse community and we can’t wait to celebrate that fact on Friday.

The Resilience Project

In the previous newsletter, we shared some information about the introduction of The Resilience Project at Rangeview. We will touch on aspects of The Resilience Project in the school newsletter right across the year as we build a shared focus with the wider community.

The three key focus areas of The Resilience Project are:

  • Gratitude
  • Empathy
  • Mindfulness

You may hear the acronym ‘GEM’ used across the year - these are the concepts it refers to!

Mindfulness:

Mindfulness means paying attention to the current moment and pausing before reacting. A key element of being mindful is maintaining concentration on the present ‘here and now’ and not being consumed by thoughts of past events, or events coming up in the future. Mindfulness is not a character strength, but a strategy to help us focus. Mindfulness can have a significant impact on our personal wellbeing.

Mindfulness strategies are very individualised and can look completely different from one person to the next - it’s what works for you. At school, some common mindfulness strategies used in classrooms include:

  • Mindfulness colouring
  • Listening to music
  • Exercise
  • Meditation/Yoga
  • Going for a walk (‘brain break’)

At home, there are many things you can do to improve your ability to become mindful! I encourage you to explore and practise different mindfulness strategies across the next two weeks - with or without your children - and be kind to yourselves by making it a priority to create time to be mindful. We are all busy; life can very quickly get away from us and we can all struggle to find time to slow down. However this can be done in even just five minutes a day…

Some ideas might be:

  • Yoga/meditation
  • Listen to your favourite music
  • Do some gardening
  • Build something
  • Paint
  • Cook
  • Read a book
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Access the ‘Smiling Mind’ app
  • Go for a walk in nature and pay attention to what’s around you

Or, find something unique to you to help you come back to the ‘present’ and focus on the now. Your wellbeing will thank you!

This year, The Resilience Project is also offering a new feature, Project+, which provides tips and tricks for parents and carers. I will share these resources with you across the year. Today, the focus is on Making Connections and Supporting Your Children. Please see the attachment below:

Student Leadership

Our Year 6 leadership group has been very busy this term, learning about their roles and performing them to the best of their ability. Our leaders contribute to the successful running of the school in so many ways - it would be impossible to list everything they do here! I am very proud of what I’ve seen over the first term, and they have set a great standard of what’s to come over the rest of the year!

This Thursday, the School Captains and Voice Captains will attend the GRIP Leadership Conference, held at the Exhibition Centre in the city. This full day conference will give them a wonderful opportunity to join ~3000 other school leaders from across the state to further enhance their leadership skills and ability to work positively and collaboratively with others. These students will report back to the rest of the leadership group next week to share their learning and continue to improve what the leaders bring to the table every week!
