Level 5/6

We are so proud of our Year 5 and 6 students for the way they have continued to embrace the many challenges and wonderful events that have taken place over the past fortnight. Our Year 5 students demonstrated fabulous growth mindset while navigating the new online NAPLAN system to complete the first of 2 practice tests which was a smooth and very valuable experience for all involved.

We have continued with our small group team challenges and inquiry-based experiments to discover how cyclones and tornados work. Students have learned what causes them and have gained a deeper understanding of the impact and devastation these natural disasters can cause.

Our writing focus so far this term has been on Persuasive texts. Students have been asked to brainstorm ideas then plan and publish their writing ensuring they are using sizzling starts to engage their readers.  We then looked at tightening the tension of their arguments using several persuasive language devices and concluding with impact and a call to action.  All students have done a wonderful job ‘bumping up’ their writing this week to ensure they have created some fabulous and very persuasive pieces.

We have also enjoyed another session of SEDA cricket and Level 5 and 6 sport. Students are certainly embracing the active focus this term and have enthusiastically participated in the before school run club and whole school House Cross Country. Congratulations to everyone involved!
