Digitech

What a busy few weeks we’ve had at the school, and this has definitely been the case for LEGO Club and Digitech!

LEGO Club has started again on Wednesdays and due to a large number of enrolments, we’ve had to split it into 4 groups. Level 2 got into teams and worked together to build some amazing towers (sadly we didn’t quite get to the roof…) and Level 3 and 4 built an amazing Hero’s Quest, with challenges ranging from jumping across lava pits, avoiding volcanoes and even an alien invasion! Looking forward to Wednesday 23rd when our 5/6 students come for their first session and then the 30th when I get to see our Foundation students!

Digitech has been a lot of fun. Our Level 3 and 4 classes are progressing in their programming skills with the MBot robots, using motion and sensors to achieve different goals. Level 3 students also had a special session to help familiarise them with the new online format for NAPLAN prior to our practise test.

Level 5 and 6 have begun the term exploring some of the new Lego Spike and BricQ Motion Essentials kits that we won and have recently started working on 3D modelling in Tinkercad. Our goal is to build the ‘ultimate vehicle’ so I can’t wait to see what they dream up and create! Our senior students also had a session to familiarise them with the NAPLAN online interface. I’ve also set the students some bonus homework to improve their typing skills and their stamina as the writing test will be on laptops this year.

First Lego League training sessions have begun with a large group of 5 and 6 students showing how keen they are to get started. It’s fabulous to see a bunch of new faces ready to carry on our school’s success! They were set with the challenge of building a perfect cube out of Technic pieces and wow – I could never have predicted such a huge variety! I’m very impressed with the out of the box thinking already on display and can’t wait to see how they go with our next challenge.
