New - Harmony Week
This week we celebrate Harmony Week. Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
What is Harmony Week?
It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Why orange?
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

During this week at school, we will come together in prayer to recognise Harmony Week. We will also enjoy eating our own lunch, all together on the hill picnic-style, recognising everyone belongs to our school community. We will also celebrate on Friday with an Out of Uniform Day, see information below.
New - Super Hero Day
Friday 25th March
Not all Super Hero's wear capes, but on Friday 25th March we can. Come dressed as a Super Hero to recognise all the amazing people in our world who help those in need, especially during Lent.
This Friday the 25th of March we are going to have a ‘Super Hero Dress Up Day’ to raise money for Caritas. Come dressed in your favourite Super Hero or just wear a cape. If you don't have any Super Hero costumes or would just like to come out of uniform, by wearing a touch of ORANGE to celebrate Harmony Week, where we are focusing on the theme that ‘Everyone Belongs.’ Please do not go out to buy a costume, wear something from home.
Please bring a Gold Coin Donation for Caritas’ Project Compassion Appeal.
This is an initiative of Judd Emanuelli in 1/2 CS who went to Chris and Danae with this amazing idea! Judd put his proposal in writing for Chris & Danae to read and approve. Well done Judd.
New - Sandhurst Switches Off
This Friday 25th March is Sandhurst Switches Off Day.
All Catholic schools and Catholic Education Offices will be encouraged to turn off their lights and any other electronic devices for part of the day or a whole day.
This action is symbolic of our commitment to the preservation of God’s fragile creation and those less fortunate than us.
The Year 6 Sustainability Team has given a copy of this poster around to all the studios. They also are sharing a list of things we can do, 'switch off' this Friday.

Thanks to Dale and team for making sure the morning ran so smoothly.
Thank you to our Year 6 Administration Leadership Team, Zahra & Keliah who kept us all running on time. Well done girls.
NEW - Happenings from Foundation Years
The Preps have been delving deeper into the concept of 'What is home?' and our latest focus has been on Australia as our home. We have looked at where we live on the map, and how Australia has been a home to the Indigenous people for thousands of years. In our Investigations time this week we have explored Aboriginal culture and symbols.
We have also explored our family, our school, our community and Australia. We have learnt that wherever we feel safe and loved, we are 'at home'. We are currently exploring the fact that Australia has been the home to people for thousands of years. We are learning that the Aboriginal people lived here and looked after the land and their homes were taken away. We all agree that is not fair.
We have explored through materials, indigenous artifacts, indigenous stories, 'going back in time'

Hatching Chicken Eggs
Incubating chickens eggs
In the 1/2 area, we’ve been incubating chicken eggs and trying to make them hatch. We have tried lots of different ways to make them hatch.
We’ve gone to the garden to get the eggs.
We’ve been looking at diagrams.
We have been watching YouTube videos to learn how to incubate eggs without buying an incubator, and planning to make one ourselves to hatch our eggs.
How to hatch an egg
To make an Incubator we are using
A box
Some hay
A lightbulb
And eggs
The eggs need to be kept warm.
Temperature
Healthy birds need the right temperature as they grow. That is why some birds parents may incubate their eggs. That means they keep their eggs warm with their bodies. Bird keepers can help. They can place eggs in incubator. These machines make sure eggs stay at the right temperature. They help birds grow and hatch well.
Rotation
Bird parents rotate their eggs while they Incubate.
They turn them often.
You need to rotate the eggs or they will die.
Timeline
This is what we expect over the next over the next 14 days.
Spots will appear.
Little crack will appear.
1/2 Investigations
New - Happenings from the Upper Years
It’s hard to believe that we are already in week 7. Only 3 weeks to go!
It’s amazing how our 5/6 students show leadership when meditating every Monday with the whole school and especially our grade 6 leaders with their prep buddies. The children show great respect during this time.
The students have shown a keen interest in our work on ‘How do Natural disasters affect us?’ There’s been a lot of discussion and excitement about the natural disaster they want to investigate, from pandemics, epidemics, volcanoes and cyclones. The students buzzing and can’t wait to make their natural disaster come to life by either making a poster, keynote, diorama or model. Stay tuned!!
