Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Families,

In what continues to be a term like no other, it was great to see the smiling faces of the boys this morning as they were reunited with their friends and teachers. Whilst it had been only three days since they last saw each other, we all know just what those three days entailed for many in our community.

As we continue to negotiate the challenges and aftermath of the recent weather event, I ask that you continue to keep a close eye on any communication from the College. Should you have any questions, or if your family needs any extra support during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me via e-mail (beattyl@marash.qld.edu.au) or through Primary Reception.

Transition Meetings

Over the last few weeks I have enjoyed the opportunity to meet with all teachers regarding the students in their class. This valuable process has ensured that each and every boy in the Primary School has had their learning and transition discussed.

Additionally, Mrs Kylie Tippins (Support Teacher – Inclusive Education) will be facilitating our Student Support Meetings later this term for students who have been identified as requiring an additional layer of support. Families involved in these meetings will have received a letter last week. If you have not been invited, please do not register for these meetings.

Save the Date – Year 5 Welcome Liturgy

All Year 5 students and their families are invited to a special Welcome Liturgy at 8:00am on Wednesday 23 March The Chapel. A formal invite and more details will be sent to Year 5 families next week.

Student Monitor System

In recent weeks our staff have noticed an increase in student purchases from the tuckshop, often when they have a packed lunch. I encourage you to have a conversation with your son regarding your expectations of the use of their ID card for the tuckshop. You can also view their transaction history by clicking the ‘View Statements’ tab on the Monitor System.

Reminders

Any students who are displaying flu-like symptoms at school will be sent to Primary Reception where their parents will be contacted immediately to collect them. These students will be provided with a Rapid Antigen Test. With this in mind, it is important to check that your contact details are up-to-date on the ParentLounge.

Swimming Photos Reminder Wednesday 2 March

Swimming Photos are scheduled for tomorrow at 1st break.  All swimmers are to bring their TEAM WEAR to change into and make their way to the POOL at the beginning of 1st break.  Students are to bring lunch to eat in between photos.

From the Primary Pastoral – Mr Michael Connolly

Speaking Respectfully

We are indeed fortunate here in the Primary School that the vast majority of our boys use very good manners when speaking with staff before, during and after school. This week, we are taking some time to remind all boys that they are being asked to use two-word answers at all times and thankfully, most boys are getting the hang of it very quickly. Hopefully, you are hearing this happening at home as well and I look forward to this big effort continuing for the remainder of the term.

Students Arriving Early

Over the course of the last few weeks, we have had a number of boys arriving at school around 7:00am. Many of these boys do not have training and as a result, are sitting in the yard unsupervised.  I would like to remind parents that there is no supervision provided until 8:15am each day.

ASHBuddies

Your sons should have had a number of opportunities to meet and spend time with their ASHBuddies. I would encourage you to have conversations with your sons about these sessions to get an understanding of how they are getting to know each other through activities.

Formal Hats

Our Year 5 boys are doing a great job of looking after their formal hats. Please check that your son has his name clearly marked on the inside of his hat, on the actual hat, rather than just the tag.
