Academic Care and Wellbeing

This week Sherrin House celebrates the first of our 5 House Days for the term.  Dates for all House Days are on the calendar and everyone is invited to wear appropriate mufti clothes on those Fridays.  Sherrin House had breakfast together, students of Sherrin House were asked to bring in a gold coin donation for Catholic Mission.  Unfortunately we could not have our parents with us but it was still a wonderful opportunity to get together as a House in cohort groups.

We are well into our first term with our student body reflecting a positive and inclusive community of young people who are engaged with learning and seek to make connections with their peers.

It is wonderful to read what our newest cohort thinks about belonging. Their message is something everyone needs to hear.

"I think that belonging means feeling accepted into a community or a safe environment. Like when you are well looked after, when people have your back and people love you.   I think it's important to belong because it shapes who you are and the things you do.   Belonging for me is everything. It means a lot."

Martin Coyle

"I feel the greatest sense of belonging when I'm with my friends. We've known each other for years so I feel really comfortable around them and can be whatever version of me I want because I know they will accept me for me no matter what."

Stella Mallise

"I feel the greatest sense of belonging when I come to school at Mater Dei because I am surrounded by my friends who understand me and treat me with respect. I am able to be honest with my friends and always be myself because I know they will never judge me no matter what. They make me feel loved.  You don't have to be alone because you are with people who love you and treat you fairly. You can fit in no matter how you look or where you come from."

Phoebe Stansfield Smith

"I think belonging means to be part of something, like a community, whether it be your school, family, culture. If we belong, people should value our ideas and opinions. We should embrace others' differences and accept the person they are. If you belong you should feel happy, comfortable, safe and free. Belonging to a community is being surrounded by people who truly value you."
