Challenges and competitions

Our normal Academic Excellence Program has been placed on hold for Term 1 due to the current restrictions, however, there are still ways for students to be involved in the program

A MONUMENTal Challenge!

Students from Year 7 to Year 9 are invited to take part in A MONUMENTal Challenge! Students are asked to research a famous monument, building or bridge and place their information in a presentation. This could be a poster, PowerPoint, IMovie or a written report. The students then need to use household recycled materials to build the monument, trying to get it to scale. There are prizes to be won so why not take part, have fun and learn something along the way.

If any students are interested in participating in this competition, please contact Mrs Cardenia for more details.

Australian Brain Bee Challenge (ABBC)

Did you know that your brain, and hence your memory, can be affected by the health of your gut?

The Year 10 students have been offered the opportunity to participate in the ABBC and find the answer to the question presented above and many more. The ABBC is a competition which allows the students to learn about the brain and its functions, neurological disorders, neuroscience research and careers in neuroscience. The students are currently studying the complex information and absorbing their newly acquired knowledge. They will compete in Round 1, an online quiz, of the Australia Brain Bee Challenge at the end of March.  We wish them luck!

Australian Geography Competition

Later this term, one hundred selected students from Year 8 - 10 Humanities classes and our Yr11 Geography students will be sitting the Australian Geography competition. They will be testing their geographical knowledge and competing against each other and over 73 000 students across Australia. I hope the students enjoy this challenging competition.

Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) Competition

Our Senior Maths Specialist students have begun their practise for the CAT competition. CAT competition is an online problem-solving competition that seeks to identify a student’s computer programming potential.

The Best Australian Yarn

The West Australian and Minderoo Foundation are on the search for Australia’s best short story. Anyone over the age of 12 can enter their original short story into the competition. The story doesn’t have to be long, just 1500-2500 words. There is no theme! Entrants are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and get their creative juices flowing to write on ANY TOPIC and in ANY STYLE. There are prizes to be won. Why not get the whole family involved!

If any students are interested in participating in this competition, please contact Mrs Cardenia for more details.
