Careers Week 2022

Collingwood College will celebrate National Careers Week from 16-22 May 2022

More information to come about exciting activities to follow…

Planning continues for National Careers Week participation.  More details will come in term #2, but the week promises to have some fun activities for all students from prep to year 12.

The whole of school activity will encourage students of all ages to observe their day to day activities to identify all of the careers visible and active in our local community.  This activity will be conducted in class.  Additional opportunities will be announced closer to the week.

Female students in year 9, 10 and 11 who are interested in learning more about opportunities for women in trades are invited to express interest in attending the Trades Fit event (see https://www.vic.gov.au/trades-fit-young-women-trades-and-tech) taking place during Careers Week on 17 May. Collingwood College has 20 places available for students wishing to participate.  Email your interest to myself (rhonda.cadman@education.vic.gov.au) or Lori Michael (email: lori.michael@education.vic.gov.au

Year 9

Year 9 students in government schools participate in the My Career Insights program, commonly referred to as Morrisby.  Students completed part-one of Morrisby,  the online assessments,  during class time in term one.

In term two, students will participate in a 30 minute one-on-one interview with an external, independent and Morrisby trained consultant.  The purpose of the interview is to help the student understand their results and to ensure that results are interpreted correctly. The consultant will demonstrate the functions of the interactive report and provide students with an opportunity to ask questions.

Parents will be advised via Compass or email of relevant interview times and are welcome to attend interviews on site. Please let me know if you’re planning on attending this interview (email: rhonda.cadman@education.vic.gov.au)

Year 10

Year 10 students are starting to plan out their work experience opportunities. Please talk to your year 10 student about their placement and help them to generate ideas.  With businesses still dealing with ongoing COVID related issues, some placements may be difficult to find.  Making an early start on approaching businesses will be valuable.

Does your workplace host work experience students? Drop us an email if you are able to help out (rhonda.cadman@education.vic.gov.au).

Work experience is scheduled for XXXXXXX.

Year 10 students will also be able to attend the the first, annual, Wurun Senior Campus Careers Expo to be held on Wednesday 1 June, 2022.

Year 11/ 12

Tyson and I have met with individual year 11 and 12 students to put final touches on their senior year programs and Tyson has also offered some resume writing workshops during advisory sessions.

Tyson and I have also been planning events such as National Careers Week and the first, annual, Wurun Senior Campus Careers Expo will be held on Wednesday 1 June, 2022.

Tertiary providers will be invited on campus to share information about courses and pathways with students from years 10, 11, 12 given an opportunity to ask questions and meet with tertiary representatives. Start thinking about what questions you want to ask! More information to come about exciting opportunities and activities to come as they are confirmed.

Year 12 students should note that VTAC has announced some information about deadlines and dates for university and some TAFE applications for 2022 -2023. Note that they may be subject to change.

Further important dates, including those for offer rounds, are not yet available and will be published as soon as they are confirmed.
