1/2 K

Our wonderful work is underway,

so come check out 1/2K.

Welcome

This week we welcome another new family to our school and we are lucky to have Matilda join our class community. Matilda is a lovely grade 1 student who has already started making new friends with our amazing children. I know if you see her, or her family at drop off or pick up you will make them feel very welcome.

Religion

This week we have been learning all about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent

On Shrove Tuesday we read a recipe about pancakes and made pancakes in the classroom. The children read about Shrove Tuesday, that it was the day before Ash Wednesday which signals the beginning of Lent. The children then discussed what they might give up, who in the community they might give to and who they might prayer for during the season of Lent. Here are some photos of the children enjoying their pancakes.

If you would like to make pancake here is the recipe we used.

Mathematics

Our focus in Mathematics has been comparing numbers. The children have been explaining if a number is smaller, greater or the same using the mathematical symbols of > < =.

They have also been using the language 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less and exploring our base 10 number system. Check out their fantastic number work.

Inquiry

We have also continued to look at materials and how we might be able to change a particular item. This week we have focused on stretching and bending different materials. The children have discovered that different items have different stretchability and some items can easily bend while others can't due to their physical properties. Here are some photos of the children testing the stretchability of everyday items.
