Assembly

Next week we will be holding both a Wells and a Walpole Assembly. The Wells assembly, for our Prep to Year 2 students will take place in The Farrall Centre. The Walpole Assembly for Years 3 - 6 will be held in the courtyard outside the Music Room, but is weather dependent. The assemblies will commence at 2.15pm on Monday afternoon. We welcome families to attend.

No Parking in Clemes Staff Carpark

To avoid unnecessary traffic congestion and safety issues we remind parents and guardians that the Clemes staff car park, located off Boa Vista Road, is not to be used for parking or school drop-off / pick-up. 

Kindergarten - Earthcare Excursion to Taroona Beach 

Monday 22 May

Children will need a spare change of clothes (labelled with their names), gum boots, a rubbish free lunch, and to be dressed appropriately for the weather forecast. 

Year 3 OE Excursion - Mt Field National Park

Friday 19 May

As part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 3 students will be visiting Mt Field National Park. The bus will depart at 9.00am and return by 3.00pm. The bus will drop us off at the visitor centre and we will walk through the forest exploring the vegetation and waterfalls.  We will make connections with our Unit of Inquiry about how people explore, explain and create to understand the world. Students will be required to wear their PE uniform and carry in their backpacks an additional warm jumper, waterproof raincoat, hat, beanie, drink bottle, lunch and snacks.  Please make sure students come with sufficient warm clothing and food and water for the day. There should be no lunch orders. Lauren Stranger, our Outdoor Education Teacher, will be accompanying us. Please complete the permission form in Operoo and ensure your child’s details are up to date.

Kindergarten to Year 4 Growing Up Program

Monday 22 - Thursday 25 May

Growing Up – a relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours program, will be run by Family Planning Tasmania starting on Monday 22 May. There will be a parent information session for the Kindergarten to Year 4 parents on Monday 22 May at 8.30am - 9.00am in the Morris Library. The program will be presented to Years 5 and 6 students (and a parent information session) later this term. Please find a copy of the program here. Year 5 - SASS Safe, Smart Kids educational program

26 and 30 May and 6 June

A program for Year 5 students will be run by SASS on Friday 26, Tuesday 30 May and Tuesday 6 June. The SASS primary school student educational program aims to empower children to understand that their bodies are their own, equip them to make positive, ethical choices with regards to their intimate relationships, and ultimately to stop intimate partner violence and sexual harm from occurring within our communities. A thorough understanding of affirmative consent underpins all age appropriate content.

Year 5 - Parent Information session - SASS Safe, Smart Kids program

Tuesday 23 May

There will be a parent, guardian and school community Information Session about the SASS primary school student educational program at 5.00pm on Tuesday 23 May in The Farrall Centre. This 1 – 1.5 hour session is optional, but highly recommended, and will cover:

  • Overview of SASS, including referral pathways
  • Overview of child sexual abuse & impacts
  • ‘First aid’ responses to disclosures of sexual harm
  • Self-care and managing vicarious trauma
  • Student workshop content & session overview
  • Q&A

Expected outcomes

  • Understanding of student workshop content
  • Increased understanding of trauma and its effects on young people
  • Improved confidence in discussing sexual issues and responding to disclosures of sexual harm
  • Skills and knowledge to prevent child sexual abuse
  • Improved self-care and resilience to vicarious trauma 

Year 3 Excursion - UTAS and Long Beach, Sandy Bay

Monday 29 May

Year 3 students are visiting the Geology Department at the University of Tasmania and Long Beach in Sandy Bay as part of their inquiry into Where we are in place and time. Students will visit the Geology Department to gain an understanding of the geology of Tasmania. We will learn how to identify rocks during an interactive gemstone hunt and explore the University's collection of rocks.  We will then travel to Long Beach, Sandy Bay. We will have lunch and play in the park. After lunch a university lecturer will take us to a volcanic site and talk about the geology of the area.  

 

We will depart school at 9.30am and return at 1.30pm. Students need to bring a packed lunch and drink bottle. No lunch orders on this day. Students will wear their school uniform and will need to bring a coat/ rain jacket and any medication they usually have at school. 

 

Parents are welcome to meet us at Long Beach, Sandy Bay during the lunch break and walk to the volcanic site from 11.30am - 1.00pm. You will need to be approved as a school volunteer by submitting a Volunteer Registration Form. Once submitted, this form will be reviewed and you will be invited to complete an induction/orientation process before commencing volunteering at the School. As a requirement this registration will require you to have a Working with Vulnerable People Permit.

Year 4 Excursion to Risdon Brook Dam

Thursday 1 June

Year 4 students will be going on an Outdoor Education excursion to Risdon Brook Dam as part of their Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time. Students will be exploring the concept of settlement and the nature of European arrival in Van Diemen's Land. 

 

We will depart school at 9.00am and return to school by 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniform on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper, their school jacket, beanie and a raincoat as it could be very cold. As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch, snacks and drink from home. No lunch orders on this day. Personal medications such as asthma puffers will be needed also. Please ensure Operoo details are up to date.   

 

We would appreciate some Year 4 parent helpers to join us at Risdon Brook Dam from approximately 9.30am - 2.00pm. If you are free on that day and would be willing to help small groups, please contact your class teacher: Denise, Emily and/or Katie by Friday 26 May. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Once submitted, this form will be reviewed and you will be invited to complete an induction/orientation process before commencing volunteering at the School. As a requirement this registration will require you to have a Working with Vulnerable People Permit.

Kindergarten Excursion - Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre

Thursday 1 and Friday 2 June

The Kindergarten groups will be visiting the Marine Discovery Centre at Woodbridge School in Week 6. The Kinder Octopuses will visit on Thursday 1 June and the Kinder Platypuses on Friday 2 June. We will depart school at 9.00am and return around 2.30pm. We are looking forward to responding to the children’s keen interest in marine life and waterways. We will have opportunities to explore the aquarium gallery and touch tank room, as well as watch animals eat via the centre’s baited video camera. Please provide spare clothes and a packed lunch and drink bottle for your child to bring to the centre.  

 

We welcome parent helpers for this excursion and can have two helpers per class group. Due to the nature of the excursion, we request that younger siblings do not attend. Please speak to Heidi, Gina or Michelle if you would like to be a parent helper. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Once submitted, this form will be reviewed and you will be invited to complete an induction/orientation process before commencing volunteering at the School. As a requirement this registration will require you to have a Working with Vulnerable People Permit.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Wednesday 24 May

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) who explain that "Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country... Last year, the event had over 2.18 million participants at over 59,000 locations!"

 

On Wednesday 24 May, all Morris classes will tune in to watch Year 6 students read this year's story "The Speedy Sloth". At lunchtime in the library, we will follow up the story with videos and sloth-themed crafts. We are excited to once again participate in this event!
