Visual Art 

The Term 2 Unit of Inquiry is called, ‘Move and Groove’ which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- 'How The World Works'. The Unit focusses on the concepts: Function and Causation, exploring a range of different mediums, using movement through design and as a creative means. Students’ work is inspired by the Optical Illusion Artists who looked at movement through visual perception.  

Students Create:

  • Optical illusion art incorporating patterns with rotating panels, with the use of a variety of mediums
  • Applying detailed drawing skill and use of effective colour to enhance the optical movement within the image  
  • Pattern mobiles capturing both detailed pattern and movement 
  • Ceramic sculpture exploring shape and pattern to represent optical illusion in 3D from

Japanese 

Term Focus:

Eating and Drinking- Japanese healthy food and diet.

'Who We Are'  

A balanced lifestyle is influenced by the choices people make.

 Physical Education  

   

The term 2 unit we are focusing on is 'How We Express Ourselves' 

   

We will continue to practice, control and master the Fundamental Motor Skills of throwing, catching and bouncing.  

 

Circus Skills: 

The students will explore movement with equipment- diablo, poi, hoops, scarves, juggling balls, spinning plates.         

   

 

Focus:   

When developing their Fundamental Motor Skills, the children will use a variety of equipment and various sized play balls to widen their motor experience.   

 

The skills learnt will be incorporated into minor team games, relays and activities.   

 

Circus Skills:

Movements that develop balance, strength and eye/hand coordination as well as creativity. We are also developing perseverance, confidence and resilience with this program.    

   

Concepts: 

Causation-understanding that a particular action will cause a particular response.

 Music 

Where We Are In Place And Time 

 

This term the students are focussing on the part music plays in Celebrations around the world, the celebrations people bring with them when they come to live in Australia and the significance of these celebrations today. There will also be a focus on the staff and formal notation. 

 

Students Will: 

  • Learn to form notes on the staff, recognise pitch letter names and rhythms
  • Learn about composition by writing lyrics, making up rhythms to match, writing the notes on a staff then performing using the chime bars 
  • Demonstrate their score reading knowledge as they play their chime bars 
  • Sing and play together and communicate their ideas to an audience 
  • Appreciate and compare various examples of multicultural music and celebrations through dance, playing and singing, as an example of how music connects people from different times and places. 
  • Students will experience music and celebrations from Japan, Israel, China, Thailand and India  
  • Learn dances from different cultures which are performed at a time of celebrations
  • Take part in discussions about celebrations and deepen their understanding of multiculturalism as they concentrate on the concepts of Connection, Form and Change
  • Watch Video clips of various multi-cultural celebrations 
  • Reflect on the music made together as they find creative ways to explore rhythm. 
  • Finish off the term with a polished performance of a class composition for their Learning Task

Library

 Students Will: 

  • Revise use of computers to search library catalogue
  • Revise the difference between a “keyword” and “subject” search 
  • Discuss the non-fiction section and where you would go to find books about a particular subject 
  • Discuss the features of a non-fiction text and how you would use it efficiently (contents, glossary, index) 
  • Read books related to UOI A balanced Lifestyle is influenced by the choices people make, e.g. The Couch Potato by Jordy John 
  • Read books related to the Unit Of Inquiry, The Past Influences Our Present and Our Future – Family history, migration, celebrations
  • Read stories related to special days, ANZAC Day and Mothers’ Day
