FIRE Carriers / Year 10 Religious Education

Michael Almery - Instructional Coach

On Tuesday 23 May, just before National Reconciliation Week begins (27/5 - 3/6), the Year 10s were given a special presentation led by Yorta Yorta man, Scott Darlow.

Darlow is an in-demand musician, passionate Indigenous Activist, and World Vision spokesperson. He regularly speaks in schools, businesses, and Churches across Australia about his Indigenous Culture, Australian history, racial tolerance, harmony and important social matters.

The Year 10s saw Scott play music, connect with each other, and talk about his life journey. He challenges students and teachers to examine who they are, what their legacy will be, and choose to be history makers. This session saw him focus on the acronym FLUTE - Forgiveness, Love, Understanding, Tolerance and Empathy. The session left a strong impact on the students, with many of them wanting to speak with Scott afterwards, as well as providing staff with overwhelmingly positive feedback about the session. Scott had a wonderful time connecting with St John's students and is eager to return next year!

A special thanks to all the staff who were in attendance, as well as Mr John Rhynehart for helping to organise with me. Cheers!
