Reconciliation Week
Our Library is decked out for Reconciliation Week. Following on from the Sorry Day Mass on Friday last week, we will continue with our truth telling about the past and sharing of a positive future. We have displays of books and posters recognising the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This week in library lessons, students listened to stories about Family, Country and coming together. Foundation students coloured in the word Family after listening to Aunty Faye Muir’s book Family. In Years 1/2, our students listened to Isiah Firebrace’s book Come Together and coloured in hand and footprints for our display wall. As part of their study of fire and bushfires, our Years 3/4 students listened to the book Looking after Country with Fire by Victory Steffensen.
Next week we will have more stories to celebrate our First Nations contribution. My Country by Ezekial Kwaymullina will tie in with our study of Australia: Our Place for Years 1 and 2 students. We have Moli det bigibigi/Molly the pig by Karen Manballoo to tie in with our farming study this term in Foundation and Years 3 and 4 students will listen to Bindi by Kirli Saunders, another story linking fires and our lives.
