Around The Primary

Dear Parents

On Monday night it was wonderful to see so many families visiting our classrooms. Open Night is such a great occasion for children to share their learning with their family and also a wonderful opportunity for parents to affirm and encourage their children.

The staff put a lot of time and effort into setting up for Open Night and it was lovely that many families have taken the time to thank staff for their efforts.

Here are some snippets from emails we received from parents the week:

‘I was thrilled to see the variety of the work that the children are doing and how engaging it can be. Thanks.’

‘Loooove the teacher professionalism and care for the kids!!’

‘Love everything, especially the wonderful and appropriate use of the iPad and technology.’

‘Amazing progress from start of year.’

‘Great to see the variety of work and the use of technology’.

In addition, the following message was received from an experienced relief teacher:

At John XXIII I have had the opportunity to witness first-hand the wonderful teaching and learning in the classrooms. They are certainly very lucky kids!’

I wish to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff, who give so much to your children and our school, in so many different ways.

From the start of the Footsteps Finale, it was obvious that John XXIII really has got talent!

From our young Pre-Primary children through to the Year 6 Leaders, the huge audience was absolutely ‘wowed’ and thoroughly entertained by each performance.

The staff were certainly the stars of the show with their incredible dance moves too!

Special thanks to Taryn and Tina from Footsteps for bringing the dance showcases together so creatively.

Enjoy the holidays!

Kind regards

Important Reminder

Students return to school on Tuesday 9 October.

Teddy Bears Hospital

Kindy students brought their teddy bears to school to visit the Teddy Bear Hospital. They met students from the Western Australia Medical Students’ Society (WAMSS) who were the Teddy Doctors. Each teddy bear spent time in the waiting room while their  kindy carers completed their patient details.  All teddy patients saw a doctor who did an x-ray and listened to their heart beat with a stethoscope. This hospital familiarisation program helps children feel more comfortable when they need to see a medical professional. Our young  students loved taking care of their teddy bear and many of these furry friends went home with bandages!

Literacy Investigation

This week the future authors and illustrators of Year One visited The Literature Centre in Fremantle. The children were able to view and discuss the incredible original illustrations from amazing picture books. They were asked to be detectives and search for items and clues in the illustrations. It was a fantastic opportunity for the young students to see the process of how a story is created.
